Calvary Chapel Christian School company history timeline

1970

Calvary Academy opened its doors on September 8, 1970, as a K-9th grade Christian school operating out of Calvary Reformed Church in South Holland, IL. Subsequently, the school added grades 10-12 to become a full K-12th grade institution.

In the late 1970’s, Calvary Chapel Downey developed a mission to provide a biblically-based education to the families of the church body.

1971

The school continued to grow, moving to its current location in 1971.

1973

Since its humble beginnings in 1973, CCS has continued to grow, by God’s grace, and impact our community in a variety of wonderful ways.

1974

In 1974, under the leadership of Robert S. Weeks and John A. Gregory, Calvary Christian School was founded as a ministry of Calvary Bible Church.

In 1974, Maranatha Christian Academy (MCA) was started in response to a need from the church families who wanted their children to receive a Christian education.

1987

Calvary Chapel Christian School (CCCS) was founded in September of 1987, originally under the name of Maranatha Fellowship Christian School.

In 1987, CCHS was added to further meet the educational, social, and spiritual needs of the children from the CCCM church body.

1989

It was an education ministry to serve the members of Maranatha Fellowship, later renamed Calvary Chapel of the Finger Lakes (CCFL) in 1989.

1992

Located in the high school office are pictures of each of our graduating classes, beginning with the first graduating class of 14 students in 1992.

1999

1999 - When It All Began The elders and pastors at Calvary Chapel Melbourne were led to open a preschool as a ministry that reached out to families with three and four year old children.

2003

In August 2003, Calvary Chapel Christian School opened its doors with 235 students, increasing from just 79 students the previous year.

2006

On May 21, 2006, Calvary Chapel graduated its first class of 8th graders.

2007

2007 - DOUBLED IN SIZE The school was blessed with a large expansion, doubling its size.

2008

In fall of 2008, the school officially changed its name from Calvary Chapel Christian School to Calvary Chapel Academy.

2013

In the fall of 2013, it then expanded by adding grades 6, 7 and 8, establishing CCCS as a K-8 school.

2015

In June of 2015 CCCS was officially renamed Calvary Chapel Academy (CCA).

2016

2016 - DUAL ACCREDITATION The school became dually accredited with AdvancED, the largest community of education professionals in the world.

2021

2021 - HIGH SCHOOL BEGINS After extensive searching and discussion, senior leadership at both Covenant and Calvary believe embracing a merger of the two schools will strengthen each and preserve Christian high school education in Brevard County.
