Calvary Church of Naperville company history timeline

1967

Church membership has boomed since that first service in July, 1967, with a congregation of three in addition to Rev.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Calvary Church of Naperville has grown from 36 members in 1967 to more than 7,000 over the course of its five-decade history.

Calvary Church was founded in 1967 by 10 college graduates, including founding Pastor Bob Schmidgall and his wife, Karen, and was originally named Calvary Temple.

1973

1973 Doctor Ross Rhoads becomes pastor at Calvary.

1977

1977 The Calvary Child Development Center is founded.

1978

The church's first location was Pfeifer Hall on North Central College's Naperville campus, where they stayed until 1978, when the congregation moved to a new building on Aurora Avenue.

1986

In 1986 ground is broken for the project.

1988

The 1988 church budget was $5,149,972, but an additional $1,027,458 was contributed to support 144 missionaries and missions projects in the United States and around the globe, including $702,724 for foreign missions.

1990

Dawes has been attending the church since 1990 and has worked there for 11 years.

1995

1995 After 21 years, Doctor Ross Rhoads resigns as senior pastor, shifting his ministry efforts to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, as Franklin Graham becomes chairman.

1998

When founding pastor Schmidgall died of heart failure in January 1998, thousands of people from all over the world attended his funeral, Dawes said.

2012

Just one year later in November 2012, the congregation celebrates the CLC grand opening.

2014

The July 2 festival is being planned as a way for members of the church to connect with the community, Rob Winkler said, Calvary's executive pastor since 2014.

2016

2016 The Calvary congregation celebrates the tenth anniversary of Doctor Munro’s service.

2019

2019 Calvary Church celebrates 80 years in ministry and undergoes a Sanctuary renovation.
