Calvary Church with Skip Heitzig company history timeline

1930

Calvary Church began to take shape in 1930 as a small Wednesday night Bible Study in Orange County with a group of Christians who were seeking a church that would remain true to the Bible.

1931

Calvary Church of Santa Ana had its first service on Sunday, September 20, 1931, in the Ebell Club on French Street.

1932

The church was officially chartered as an independent branch of Calvary Church of Placentia on October 25, 1931 with 203 members. It was in 1932 that Harold and Dauphine Tuggy became Calvary’s first missionaries with the Orinoco River Mission in Venezuela.

1939

May 21, 1939 Bible Presbyterian Church Unaffiliated opens in uptown Charlotte at the old Central High School.

1941

The church bought three lots just down the street at the corner of 6th and French in 1941.

1942

Opening day of the new facility was October 18, 1942 with more than 300 people attending.

In 1942, God would provide for the growing congregation as the architect came up with the idea to turn the existing house on the property half way around.

1946

The first pastor is Edgar Archer Dillard, who serves until 1946.

1950

He works to establish Calvary Christian Day School in 1950, which later becomes Charlotte Christian School.

1962

The first service in Fellowship Hall was on April 29, 1962, with a dedication sermon by Doctor J. Vernon McGee.

1965

In 1965, Pastor Chuck Smith began his ministry at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa with just 25 people.

1975

Over the next decade, Calvary Church would go on to nearly quadruple its membership, complete four major debt-free building projects, and start Calvary Christian School with six grades in 1975.

1977

1977 The Calvary Child Development Center is founded.

1982

Just after Calvary’s 50th Anniversary, Pastor Samsvick suffered a major heart attack while working in his rose garden in April 1982 and passed away after a fruitful 26-year ministry.

1986

In 1986 ground is broken for the project.

1988

With further growth and overflowing attendance in the Chapel, Calvary began to build the Worship Center in 1988.

1989

In September of 1989 God led Pastor Jim to begin a new work on the east side of Colorado Springs, aptly named Calvary Chapel Eastside.

1995

1995 After 21 years, Doctor Ross Rhoads resigns as senior pastor, shifting his ministry efforts to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, as Franklin Graham becomes chairman.

2001

In 2001, Calvary launched the Hispanic Ministry led by Pastor Armando Reyes, offering a Sunday morning service in Spanish.

2012

Just one year later in November 2012, the congregation celebrates the CLC grand opening.

2016

2016 The Calvary congregation celebrates the tenth anniversary of Doctor Munro’s service.

2019

2019 Calvary Church celebrates 80 years in ministry and undergoes a Sanctuary renovation.
