Calvary Lutheran Church company history timeline

1958

In 1958, Pastor Moeller was elected to the United States House of Representatives from Ohio and Calvary then called Pastor Frederick Kemper.

1959

The first service was held September 27, 1959 with 110 people present.

1960

In January of 1960, Calvary was officially established as a congregation of 18 families: 97 baptized and 51 confirmed members.

In April 1960, the ELC merged with two other synods to form the American Lutheran Church.

A meeting was held with election of officers on September 14, 1960.

Our nursery for children under 3 began in 1960.

1961

The first pastoral conference dinner was served in February 1961.

Beginning in June 1961 and for several years thereafter, the women of Calvary were the Greeters each Sunday at worship.

1962

When the church began having two services in 1962, Vince Gingerich served as organist during the early service.

After a big push for building funds, the new church building was completed in 1962. “Stanley Arthur was an artist as well as an architect,” Chuck Boehne said.

In 1962 the Cradle Roll was formed.

1965

November 1965: Pastor J.B. Erhart began working in the Alexandria area soon after he came to Calvary Lutheran church in Glenwood.

The Calvary kitchen got its first stove in 1965, a donation from the Vorhes family when they left.

1966

In January 1966 the congregation purchased the land of the present location on College Hills Boulevard.

In 1966, the Calvary Library got its start, the Bible study Circles were formed and the first Ice Cream Social was held; receipts were $97.55, with only pie, ice cream and a beverage served.

1968

Pastor J.B. Erhart retired at the age of 70 after serving St Paul’s for three years.October 13, 1968: Church services began in Alexandria on October 13, 1968.

1969

The first service had an attendance of 32 souls, and the first offering was in the amount of $58.88.April 29, 1969: St Paul’s was incorporated.May 1969: Mission status was granted.

1971

December 19, 1971: Pastor Frank Miller was installed.

1972

The first 5 services were held in the basement of the Garden Center Bowling Alley and later services were held at IOOF hall until December 20, 1972.

1972: Ladies Aid was started, currently operating as “Helping Hands.”

1973

April 29, 1973: Pastor Chester Zuleger was installed.

1976

He served until 1976 when he accepted a call to Lake City, Minnesota.July 18, 1976: Pastor Gary Greip was installed after having been assigned to St Paul’s from the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary.

1977

He also served in Glenwood until April of 1977.

1978

Fall 1978: Pastor Griep began exploratory services in Fergus Falls.

1984

1984: St Paul’s built the education wing to the existing building.

1987

November 1987: St Paul’s started an OWLS chapter. (Organization of WELS Lutheran Seniors)

1989

When her husband Marshall was able to take advantage of very good business opportunities, Sandi and her family moved to North Carolina in 1989.

1995

Kris Nyman 1995: Interim Pastor Rev.

Thomas and Rebecca von Fischer, in 1995 the congregation began to re-envision its mission and find a renewed spirit in South Minneapolis.

2002

In 2002, Theodore Heitmuller blessed Calvary with the gift of the beautiful and historic farm in Poolesville, known as Aix La Chappelle.

2006

Paul Anderson March-November 2006: Interim Pastor Rev.

2007

In October 2007: Pastor Michael Neumann was installed after accepting a call.

2013

TodayBrian Priebe plays the Alphorn to welcome the sun as the 2013 outdoor Easter sunrise service begins.

2018

Pastor Hans Lee was called by the congregation to be its pastor, and began his work in this community on April 16, 2018.

In October 18, 2018 St Paul's celebrated 50 years of the rich blessing of God's word.

2022

Pastor Kjell Ferris began his interim ministry at Calvary on March 22, 2022.
