Position: Client Advocate
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor

What the Client Advocate Does:
Assist program staff by being a client liaison with outside organizations regarding such matters as housing, education, healthcare, social services, legal issues, etc.
Assist clients in attaining their goals by identifying and locating community resources and by referring clients to appropriate services both within and outside CAMBA.
Plan, coordinate and facilitate social/peer support events, including group facilitation for clients to promote wellness and recovery.
Assist clients in developing skills intended to improve: mental health, physical health, activities of daily living (ADL), resistance to alcohol and other drug use and self-advocacy.
Assist clients in recognizing their own individual warning signs of relapse and identifying and developing individual coping strategies.
In collaboration with the case managers, work with clients to break through barriers to client goals and to assist clients in advocating for themselves, specifically in the treatment and recovery process, and in moving toward self-sufficiency.
Prepare marketing materials for the program.
Escort clients to appointments (housing, educational, medical, social service, etc.).
Assist clients in completing applications for benefits and entitlements, and may process applications on clients' behalf.
Contact clients via telephone, mail and/or face-to-face office visits to ensure adherence to program, and document via progress notes.
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years of applicable experience and/or equivalent experience
Other Requirements:
Applicable experience working with either homelessness, mental health or substance use populations.
May be required to become First Aid/CPR certified.
May be required to become certified in overdose prevention.
Bi-lingual preferred.
Compensation:$18.50 hourly
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Position Overview:
Work exclusively in shelter programs where clients may be experiencing challenges related to substance use, trauma history, or mental health. Provide advocacy, outreach, recovery and crisis intervention. Assist participants in developing communication skills and recovery supports. Assist participants to identify their own individual warning signs of return-to-use and developing coping strategies and crisis prevention tools. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The essential duties of the Certified Peer Specialist include but are not limited to the following activities:
Escort clients to appointments and programs as needed
Meet regularly with participants in the shelter providing peer service
Provide harm reduction counseling services including teaching coping skills, relapse prevention strategies, wellness management and social skills to help participants become more independent and achieve their goals.
Connect participants to community resources and on-site support services.

Qualifications:

What The Outreach Worker Does:
Reach out and market the program to the community via street outreach in order to recruit clients.
Assist in organizing responses to all shootings that occur in the targeted catchment area within 72 hours of receipt of notice of the shooting or killing.
Prepare marketing materials and market the program to community.
Attend and help facilitate social/peer support events (i.e., community events and shooting response meetings, etc).
Review all documentation establishing clients' eligibility for program and make file copies.
Assist clients in completing all CAMBA intake applications and forms.
Create and maintain client files.
Conduct initial intake or assessment of clients and clients' families and/or periodic reassessments.
Follow-up with clients and with referral organizations regarding client contact and progress with referral organization.
Work with clients to break through barriers to client goals and to assist clients in advocating for themselves and in moving toward self-sufficiency.
Recommend and implement strategies to persuade clients to participate more fully in this process.
Act as client liaison/client advocate with outside organizations regarding such matters as education, healthcare, housing, etc.
Monitor clients' progress toward their goals (dates achieved) via regularly scheduled telephone contact and/or face-to-face home and office visits, and document via progress notes.
Recommend closing of cases in which clients have: (a) achieved primary goals and have maintained stability for a period of months; or, (b) have not demonstrated a willingness to participate in the process (lost-to-service); or, (c) have become ineligible for services (e.g. moved out of area).
Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
May conduct client's and/or families' periodic re-assessments.
May schedule appointments for client with referral organizations.
May escort clients to appointments (educational, medical, social service, etc.).

Engaging individuals to consider entering addiction treatment programs
Raising awareness of existing social and support services and linking individuals to formal recovery supports
Providing education and training regarding overdose prevention to individuals who have overdosed or at risk for overdosing
Modeling coping skills
Developing recovery plans
Providing crisis support, especially after periods of hospitalizations or incarceration
Participating in case conferences
Providing all documentation required by federal, state and local funders
Qualifications:
