Position Summary
Conduct comprehensive health assessments and demonstrates a high level of autonomy and clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating complex health conditions affecting individuals, families, and communities. The Brigham and Women's Outpatient Clinic Cardiac Surgery PhysicianAssistant (PA) is a member of the Cardiac Surgery care team within the MGB Heart & Vascular Institute. The PA is responsible for returning patient phone calls and checking Epic In-Basket regularly, responding to time sensitive messaging as needed.
While the Outpatient Clinic Cardiac Surgery PA can expect a relatively predictable work schedule planned in advance whenever possible, scheduling variations may occur in order to cover clinical needs as they become apparent to the department/division/clinic. The PA may occasionally be asked to work clinically during administrative time and/or provide coverage for colleagues.
Qualifications:
We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour PhysicianAssistant to support our outpatient Cardiac Surgery clinic at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Weekly schedule consists of mix of clinical, patient-facing time and administrative time. Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated pre- and postoperative cardiac surgery patient population in the ambulatory setting. Performs complete histories and physical examinations. Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings. Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures. Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation. Practices cost effective medicine in an efficient manner, maximizing available resources. Discusses patient data with other physicians and professionals as appropriate in a multidisciplinary setting. Demonstrates expert clinical judgment skills to function in an independent role.

The cardiac cath lab physicianassistant is a licensed provider who will be responsible for all aspects of pre, intra, and post procedure care of interventional cardiology patients. * 36 or 40 hours, either permanent nights or rotating day/night with up to 50%-night rotation, every 3rd weekend, some holidays (including major)
* Rotation between Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery APP teams on a 2-month cadence
Minimal Qualifications
Education
* A Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in PhysicianAssistant Studies
Experience
* 1+ year of current Nurse Practitioner experience or 1+ year of current PA experience preferred
* Will consider new graduate Nurse Practitioners with 2+ years inpatient RN experience preferably in pediatric, cardiac, or higher level of care (ICU/ICP/ED) or new graduate PAs if prior pediatric cardiology and higher level of care rotations completed.
Licensure/Certifications
* Current MA NP or MA PA license with PNP or FNP certification
* Sign-on bonus: $5,000-$15,000 (prorated for under 40 hours/week). Higher bonus for candidates with significant pediatric or cardiac experience. (For people who have not worked at BCH in the past 2 years.).

Our 30-bed MSICU cares for medical and surgical patients ranging from newborn to early adult. The patient population is diverse with a variety of medical and surgical needs. Our newborn population primarily includes patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia or those needing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) soon after birth. The children and early adults have a variety of diagnoses, including but not limited to acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiple trauma, septic shock, congenital malformations, and liver, lung, and kidney transplantation. We are seeking a qualified Nurse Practitioner or PhysicianAssistant to become an integral part of a team that believes in the value of personalized care and the power of multidisciplinary teams to provide the very best care possible to our patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide care to infants, children, and adults with critical illness.
* Collaborate with supervising physicians to conduct patient assessments, medical histories, physical exams, and diagnose health and developmental problems.
* Manage therapeutic regimens for patients with acute and chronic disease according to approved guidelines.
* Participate in intensive care unit medical rounds, including presenting clinical information and updates on patient progress and management.
* Assist with establishing treatment plans and participate in all teaching activities conducted by the MSICU attending staff.
* Participate in ongoing research in the MSICU and offer expertise as a consultant and educator to other staff.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
* Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in PhysicianAssistant Studies
Experience
* Minimum of 1 year of critical care experience as an Advanced Practice Provider preferred. Candidates with 2-3 yrs critical care experience as an RN may also be considered.
* Solid medical knowledge base for critical care medicine; pediatric experience preferred.
* Critical thinking skills and adaptability.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with medical and surgical colleagues, staff, and trainees.
* Schedule: 40 hours/week, nights, every 4th weekend, and some holidays.
Licensure/Certifications
