The Peabody School (70 Rindge Avenue) was founded in 1889.
The school began with teams in football and baseball, and in the 1890’s organized teams in basketball, hockey, track, and crew.
Subsequent donations included photographs of other student activities including fire fighting training, a record book of the class of 1892, glass slides, etc., that were of a different nature, hence the collection was renamed the Rindge Alumni Association Collection.
The Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. It was renamed from the former Houghton School in 1968 shortly after Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr.’s death.
The Kennedy school was originally dedicated on June 10, 1973.
The photographs remained on display and were maintained by the Rindge Alumni Association until the merger of the school in 1977 with the Cambridge High and Latin School, when they went into storage.

Driven to practice by teachers/coaches Linda Lipkin, Phyllis Bretholtz, and Tobe Korsgren the Club was enthusiastically supported by Athletic Director Bill Bates and it was their combined efforts that led to the inclusion of a CRLS boat bay in the remodeled Cambridge Boat Club in 1999.
They worked together to develop a turnaround plan for the schools centered on establishing a single new school, the Fletcher-Maynard Academy, which opened its doors to students in September of 2000.
Thus, Spring 2000 was the first official season of the CRLS crew under its own name and colors.
Bilingual students who had been housed at the Longfellow School were incorporated into the Amigos School in 2002.
The Amigos school was later moved to the King School building as a result of the School Consolidation plan passed by the Cambridge School Committee in the late 2003-04 academic year.
A transition was begun in 2007 when Doctor Fowler-Finn, the superintendent of schools at the time, created a Montessori School which was housed at the Tobin.
Since the 2012-13 school year, all children up to grade five have been housed in Montessori classrooms.
