Otto R. Mauke was chosen to be the first president of the college in March 1967 and his staff moved into Washington Hall in June 1967.
First Day of classes for the college was on September 25, 1967 only six months from the founding of the college.
The College’s mission was launched when what had been the Mother of the Savior Seminary was purchased in early 1967.
Camden County College was established in 1967 on 320 acres (1.3 km) of land which had belonged to the Mother of the Savior Seminary.
That fall, the first class of Camden County College students began taking courses on the Blackwood Campus and the first graduation class was 1969.
Their study, called for by the Higher Education Restructuring Act of 1994, found that the state’s northwest, southwest, and coastal regions were lacking in access to post-secondary degree programs.
Rutgers Statewide, originally known as Rutgers Off-Campus Degree Completion Programs, launched its first partnership program in 1998 at Brookdale Community College.
Camden County College’s Cherry Hill location opened in 2000 as the result of a unique public/private partnership between the College, Cherry Hill Township and the William G. Rohrer Charitable Foundation.
