Job Description Laboratory Manager - Assistant 1.0 Corporate Job Title Laboratory Manager - Assistant 2.0 Reporting Relationships Lab Manager for day-to-day laboratory responsibilities Assist the Manager and coordinates laboratory functions for the branch. Provides guidance, leadership and training to laboratory staff on routine matters. 4.0 Minimum Requirements • Requires a B.S. (preferable Chemistry degree) with a minimum of five years general laboratory experience or three years' experience in a petroleum laboratory. • Must be able to distinguish color. Must pass pulmonary test for respirator use. 5.0 Responsibilities • Acts as the liaison between Laboratory Coordinator and general laboratory staff with respective Branch Manager, Operations Department and Laboratory Director. • Works closely with Operations Department to obtain day-to-day analytical testing requirements based upon nominations received from clients in order to provide accurate, reliable results on a timely basis. Works directly with customers for laboratory submitted samples if required. • Ensures that laboratory staff and visitors follow all documented safety requirements as defined by the company safety program. • Uses judgment and discretion in directing, coordinating and scheduling the work activities of laboratory staff consistent with accepted operating practices and procedures, including periods during non-working hours, weekends and holidays. • Receives, compiles, and verifies the data resulting from laboratory analyses and ensures accurate and complete preparation of applicable reports as per standard procedures. • Works with laboratory staff to analyze and compile round robin and quality control sample results to ensure operating efficiency of process and/or testing equipment. • Ensures the laboratory has the equipment and supplies necessary to meet customer demands and established quality program. • Ensures that laboratory staff is qualified to perform necessary testing and meets the training refresher training requirements of the quality system. • Ensures Test Method Assessments (TMA's) are conducted as per the required procedure and schedule. • Using advanced knowledge gained in the laboratory, identifies the root causes of quality system problems (customer, specifications or Camin Cargo system) in respective areas of responsibility and uses good judgment to independently troubleshoot, initiate, recommend, and/or implement timely solutions to the problems. 6.0 Fitness for Duty - Physical Demands Workday may consist of 8-12 hours however this can vary day to day and shift to shift. Some of the retain work is performed outdoors, wearing full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and could include possible exposure to high and low temperatures for a prolonged duration of time. Laboratory work is normally performed indoors under climate-controlled conditions. SUMMARY Performs routine laboratory analysis of pressurized petroleum crude oil and natural gas in a PVT (Pressure, Volume, Temperature) laboratory environment. Conducts all aspects of PVT lab work under close supervision, including sample QC, pressurized transfers, saturation pressure measurements, flash separations, data reporting, and others, and assists coworkers in the same. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES * Performs all aspects of PVT studies such as recombination, PV relations, differential liberations, constant volume depletions, viscosity measurement, and others. * Uses basic hand tools properly and safely to make connections to valves and laboratory equipment and works safely and effectively with pressurized petroleum reservoir fluids. * Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment. * Understand and be able to complete laboratory raw data sheets, perform basic data calculations using calculators and computers, and make accurate entries into the laboratory information management system. * Read and understand all analysis and safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory. * Assist senior laboratory personnel in setting up, adjusting and operating laboratory equipment for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice. Performs equipment maintenance without assistance, performs equipment calibration and repair. * Assist in or perform basic analytical tests from well-defined standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager. Laboratory technicians must be verified to be able to perform all tests in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice. * Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in Core Laboratories Procedural and Safety and Environmental Manuals, and company policies. * Attend training and pass appropriate examinations in petroleum, chemical and gas analysis, including Right-to-Know training, hazardous materials disposal, and other safety and compliance training required by applicable regulations. Degree (or equivalent). • Must have a valid motor vehicle driver's license. • Must have a maintained and insured personal vehicle, unless a Company use vehicle is provided. • Must be dependable and be able to work independently with minimal supervision. SUMMARY Performs routine laboratory tests under close supervision to determine chemical or physical characteristics designated by clients. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES * Read and understand all analysis and safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory. * Assist senior laboratory personnel in setting up, adjusting and operating laboratory equipment for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice. * Assist in or perform basic analytical tests from well-defined standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager. Laboratory technicians must be verified to be able to perform all tests in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice. * Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment. * Assist in calibrating laboratory instruments for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice. * Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas. * Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in Laboratory Manual #5, Safety Manual #7, and the Core Laboratories Safety and Environmental Manual, and company policies. * Attend training and pass appropriate examinations in petroleum, chemical and gas analysis, including Right-to-Know training, hazardous materials disposal, and other safety and compliance training required by applicable regulations. * Understand and be able to complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into laboratory computer programs. * QUALIFICATIONS * High school diploma or equivalent is required. * Bachelor's degree preferred. * Two years of related experience and/or training preferred. Primary Responsibilities Operate and maintain equipment used for collecting and testing steel product samples. Conduct mechanical and metallurgical testing to assess material properties. Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, and quality standards. Job Duties Operate CNC machines, milling/turning tools, drills, band saws, surface grinders, and abrasive cutting saws to obtain test samples. Perform destructive testing, including tensile, impact, and hardness tests. Use polishing and grinding tools to prepare samples for metallurgical examination. Handle physical samples and work in varied indoor/outdoor conditions. Read and use measuring tools such as dial calipers, micrometers, and rulers. Operate handheld spectrometer for chemical analysis of steel. Accurately record test data for use in reports and compliance documents. Follow procedures outlined in quality management systems. Education and Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. A minimum of 1 year of experience in a testing lab environment is preferred. Previous machining experience required. A technical degree in welding, heat treatment, or machining is preferred. Efficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is preferred. Previous experience with Oracle is preferred.
