About the Position:

Are you currently employed at a school, university, or other seasonal position and seeking additional or supplemental work as a cook? Our seasonal cook position at Camp Challenge in Sorrento Florida may be just what you have been looking for! The camp cook position is seasonal throughout the year. We provide overnight camp weekends once a month and weeklong camps a couple of times per year. Then our busiest season is our summer camp programs in June and July, all for children and adults with special needs. Come join our team of cooks that pop in and out of camp throughout the year, bringing fun foods and desserts to our campers! Positions include weekends, holiday, spring and winter breaks and summer breaks. Morning, mid-day and late afternoon to evening shifts are available. Responsibilities include prepping, cooking and serving meals, adapting menus to those with dietary needs, and maintaining safety and sanitization standards in the kitchen and dining hall.

Available shifts:

  • Friday - Dinner 3:30pm to 7:30pm
  • Saturday - Breakfast 7:00am to 10:30am & Lunch 11:00am to 2:30pm
  • Saturday - Dinner - 3:30pm to 7:30pm
  • Sunday - Breakfast - 7:00am to10:30am & Lunch 11:00am to 3:00pm

Qualifications:

  • Compassion for working with children and adults with disabilities and special needs
  • High School Diploma/GED; and six months related experience and/or training
  • Experience cooking in a commercial kitchen is preferred
  • Ability to lift and or move up to 50 pounds

Position Summary:

To assist the Head Cook in preparing and serving nutritious meals and in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, food preparation and food storage areas.

Essential Functions:

+ Assist in the daily operations of the camp food service program.

+ Assist in the preparation of food.

+ Set up food, supplies, and utensils for dining hall food distribution.

+ Store food and leftovers at proper temperature and proper storage locations.

+ Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and other food services areas.

+ Clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage equipment.

+ Reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle as practically as possible.

**Position Summary**

The Service Contract Act (SCA) Cook II prepares in large quantities, by various methods of cooking, meat, poultry, fish, and vegetables, seasons and cooks all cuts of various meats, fish, and poultry, boils, steams, or fries vegetables, makes gravies, soups, sauces, roasts, meat pies, fricassees, casseroles, and stews. Excludes food service supervisors and head cooks who exercise general supervision over kitchen activities.

**General Responsibilities:**

+ Prepares and cooks to order foods requiring short and longer preparation time.

+ May produce food and serve customers at an a la carte station or may operate a grill station.

+ Prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided.

+ Reads food order or receives verbal instructions on food requested by customer, and prepares and cooks food according to instructions.

+ Always provides the highest quality of service to customers.

+ Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments.
