The CampCounselor plays a critical role in the successful operation of the Summer Camp program. The CampCounselor is responsible for providing a safe and positive environment for school age children, to provide opportunities for learning, interaction and academic/personal growth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program by providing appropriate supervision at all times. Understand, maintain, and ensure that participants follow safety procedures.
• Be an agent of safety for campers. This includes taking responsibility for one's own well-being and the well-being of others. Assist with health-related concerns.
• Keep immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns regarding participants, staff, or the facility.
• Plan and implement meaningful activities, lesson plans and special events that are structured, age- appropriate, fun, exciting, challenging, and values based in the areas of arts, STEM, character development, literacy, creative expression, community service, physical fitness and/or nutrition.
• Perform specific scheduled assignments, including but not limited to: swimming, arrival and/or departure, and lunch duty.
• Prepare the learning environment, lessons, and necessary supplies for program activities. Assume responsibility for the cleanliness and organization of the camp room, program supplies, and activity space.
• Support the planning and implementation of all camp activities, including but not limited to summer learning initiatives, field trips, in-camp events, and culminating performances.
• Provide support to Activity Specialists with activity implementation.
• Provide guidance and support to Counselors in Training (CITs), hold CITs accountable for program expectations, and complete and maintain all required CIT paperwork.
• Work cooperatively with all program staff.
• Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all staff and participants.
• Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.
• Serve as a positive role model for participants.
• Maintain accurate program documentation (attendance, sign in/out forms, behavior reports, incident reports, and accident reports, as appropriate).
• Understand and communicate the YMCA's core values and the goals of the Summer Camp program to staff, participants, and care givers.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication about their child's strengths and areas of growth. Take a leadership role in providing regular updates (including Snapshots, behavior updates, success stories, etc.) to caregivers.
• Attend all required pre-camp trainings. Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.
• Ensure that groups are in ratio.
• Ensure program, staff and patrons maintain hygiene habits/practices in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Outreach is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Part-Time Recreation Counselor for our Men and Women Residential program located in Brentwood, Long Island . The Recreation Counselor is responsible for all aspects of client recreational activities including planning, documenting, and overseeing each function. The schedule for this position is 6 to 12 hours per week to be discussed. The hours are flexible and must be able to work holidays.
In this residential setting, you will: Provide supervised highly structured indoor and outdoor recreational activities to residents. Supervise highly structured indoor recreation in the weight room with residents. You will plan and oversee special events with residents and their families. Assist with providing scheduled activities for residents in orientation, early treatment, middle treatment, and late treatment phases of the program to the supervisor. Work with supervisor to provide daily group notes indicating activities and resident participation. You will actively participate in supervision and supervise residents in self- medication. Complete accurate reporting of incident reports, resident elopements, and crisis intervention and communicate all pertinent information/incidents/emergencies via SAC book/House Manager.

Position Summary
The Recreation Counselor provides opportunities for the youth of WellLife Network's Community Residence Program to engage in structured, pro-social, and skill-building activities that promote emotional growth, creativity, and independence. This position reports directly to the Program Director.
Essential Accountabilities
Operational
1. Activity Planning: Plan, organize, and document a monthly calendar of recreational activities in collaboration with youth; submit proposed and actual calendars in accordance with program deadlines.
2. Skill Development: Design and implement community-based skill-building outings; develop activity sheets that outline objectives, learning outcomes, and follow-up discussions.
3. Budget Management: Manage the recreational activity budget responsibly, ensuring activities remain cost-effective and aligned with program priorities.
4. Supply Management: Purchase and maintain recreational supplies with appropriate approval; ensure materials are organized and accessible.
5. Communication: Communicate activity schedules and updates to staff, maintain positive community partnerships, and build local resource connections to enhance programming.
6. Individualized Resident Care: Provide attentive supervision and individualized support to ensure the safety and well-being of each youth during activities and daily routines.
7. Behavioral Modeling: Demonstrate positive behavior, teamwork, and respect, serving as a consistent role model for youth in line with program values.

18. Medication Support: Assist in monitoring medication compliance as directed by supervisory or clinical staff, ensuring consistency with treatment plans.
19. Behavioral Support: Promote appropriate behavior through consistent structure, redirection, and positive reinforcement; provide crisis intervention as needed.
20. Reporting: Promptly report all incidents or unusual occurrences to the Program Director or designee and complete documentation per policy.
21. Documentation: Complete all assigned logs, activity reports, and progress notes accurately and in a timely manner.
22. Residential Upkeep: Support the maintenance of a clean, organized living space; model and teach youth household tasks such as laundry, shopping, and cooking.
23. Training Participation: Attend and actively participate in all required staff meetings, in-service trainings, and OMH-mandated sessions.
24. Program Participation: Participate in agency and program events such as the annual Family Bonds Retreat, demonstrating flexibility, teamwork, and commitment to the mission of fostering youth growth and resilience.
25. Other Duties: Perform additional tasks assigned to support program operations and uphold the values of the organization.
Qualifications
The Recreation Counselor is required to have a minimum of a high school diploma with relevant experience working with children and adolescents who have emotional and behavioral disorders. An associate's degree in human services, psychology, recreation, or a related field is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate creativity, patience, and the ability to engage youth in therapeutic and skill-building activities that promote social, emotional, and physical development. A valid New York State driver's license is required.

* Assist Camp Activity Directors with daily activities, including but not limited to Arts & Crafts, Tennis, Swimming, Science, Boating, Cooking, and Mindfulness
* Attend daily Camp team meetings
* Assist with parent/guardian inquiries as needed
* Assist Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director(s) with daily Camp operations as needed
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
* Prior experience in a Counselor role strongly preferred
* Must be 16 years of age or older by the start of camp to meet New York State Minor Law Guidelines
* Must complete all team member orientations, trainings, and documents prior to start of Camp
* Must be available for Camp's six-week duration from June 29th to August 7th
* Must be available for Camp's operational hours (typically Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM), with the ability to work varying daily start/end times at the Camp Director's discretion
* Must have ability to positively motivate and manage children
* Must possess strong leadership skills, with ability to work as part of a team
