Position Overview:
This position is responsible for ensuring a safe, fun, engaging, and educational experience for all campers. Counselors live in a cabin of 6-12 campers, attend trainings and meetings, provide supervision and community expectations, create positive environment for campers and peers, and assist in the cleaning and maintenance of unit areas.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. This role will come in contact with campers, families, visitors, vendors and employees. Each of these persons may have visible and invisible qualities that makes that person unique. This includes race, gender, age, sexuality, ability, religion, national origin, gender identity, and other identities. This role requires sustaining an inclusive and equitable learning and working environments by having respectful and considerate behavior, thoughtful and constructive speech to all.
· Ability to commit to learning and applying an equity lens to the delivery of youth programming and community building.
· Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation including supporting Namanu by assisting with duties outside of this role.
· Open to feedback and contributing to an environment of continual learning.
2. Act as role model for campers including setting clear cabin expectations and providing first line of support for campers needs including homesickness, conflict mediation, and team building.
· Lead and live with a group of 6-12 youth including gathering camper interests for scheduling, setting and following community expectations and being a safe and supportive mentor during their time at camp.
· Responsible for ensuring campers basic needs are met including sufficient sleep, hygiene, reasonable eating habits and cooperation with the Medical Staff and Camp Director in case of illness.
3. Ensure a safe social, emotional, and physical environment for campers and staff members.
· Set clear safety and behavior expectations for campers. Follow all Namanu safety and emergency protocols.
· Provide timely follow up on any accident/ incidents reporting.
· Collaboratively work with other staff in unit to maintain a clean and safe work environment, including end of season inventory of supplies.
4. Assist and lead various activities for campers to support intended camper outcomes and engagement within the camp community.
· Assist program staff with songs, arts and crafts, science experiments, cooking projects, and field trip activities, etc. Training provided.
· Lead cabin unit in group activities, including games, songs, etc.
· Assist in coordinating cabin, unit and all-camp activity planning and facilitation including events such as free choice, campfires, group games, skit night, etc.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Responsible for the overall wellbeing of campers and supports staff with direct child supervision. No staff supervision responsibilities.

Work Environment :

Housing for this position will be with campers and is rustic. Living spaces may not include full exterior walls, electricity or a private space away from campers. The bathroom may be located in a building a short distance away and will be an all-gender space. Depending on session assignments and camper numbers, staff may be required to move to different housing between sessions.

Position Summary
Camp Greider has been offering unique and high quality summer camps to youth, ages 6-15 since 1978. Instruction in a variety of specialty topics is combined with a well-rounded outdoor summer day camp program experience at our beautiful location out in West Salem. A convenient check in/out location at the downtown Salem Y, and extended daytime hours add to the popularity. Youth attend one or more weeks throughout the summer. Age appropriate groups are kept to a small, 1:8 ratio of adults to youth for a fun summer experience for all.
The Greider Outdoors Lead is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Greider Outdoors Specialty Camps. This role includes implementing established Greider Outdoors curriculum and, when needed, developing supplemental or new curriculum to meet program goals. The Greider Outdoors Lead is expected to demonstrate foresight in planning, anticipating program needs based on camper ages, group dynamics, abilities, and site conditions.
The position collaborates closely with the Assistant Director of Programming on curriculum planning and supply needs, submitting material requests in advance. As a general member of the camp leadership team, the Greider Outdoors Lead reviews program effectiveness, provides feedback, and offers recommendations to strengthen curriculum and inform future summers.
Essential Functions
Design and implement Outdoor Skills programming, including but not limited to archery, hiking, and environmental education
Develop engaging outdoor activities that encourage exploration and appreciation of nature
Plan and deliver age-appropriate lessons aligned with camp curriculum and learning objectives.
Lead instructional camp sessions (2 hours per day, 5 days a week).
Work with campers ages 6-15, divided into appropriate age groups (e.g., 8-9, 10-12, 11-13).

Submit activity plans and supply requests in advance.
Set up and take down the program area daily.

Co-teach and collaborate with another instructor when required.

OMSI CampCounselors are a passionate team of mentors and youth leaders committed to providing transformative overnight summer camp experiences. Counselors are in charge of small groups of campers in cabins at either the Coastal Discovery Center at Camp Gray (in Newport, Oregon) or at Hancock Field Station (near Fossil, Oregon).
In addition to supervising campers in nearly every activity and aspect of camp, this position also takes on support roles like camp assistant in the dining hall, light cleaning, bus or van monitoring, and assisting team members with activities and lessons. Work schedule depends on programming needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the health and safety of campers (ages 6-17), staying with and monitoring them overnight in cabins/tents, and at tables during meals;
Acts as a positive role model for students and staff at all times, and actively integrates diversity, equity, access and inclusion in all areas.
Ensures that students are prepared for activities and keeping groups on schedule;
Responsible for monitoring and engaging with campers during bus and van rides, recreation, free time, cabin time, and during transitions between activities;

Position Summary
The Greider Discovery Lead is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Greider Discovery Specialty Camps and Leaders-in-Training Program. This role includes implementing established Greider Discovery curriculum and, when needed, developing supplemental or new curriculum to meet program goals. The Greider Discovery Lead is expected to demonstrate foresight in planning, anticipating program needs based on camper ages, group dynamics, abilities, and site conditions.
The position collaborates closely with the Assistant Director of Programming on curriculum planning and supply needs, submitting material requests in advance. As a general member of the camp leadership team, the Greider Discovery Lead reviews program effectiveness, provides feedback, and offers recommendations to strengthen curriculum and inform future summers.
In addition, this role will also take leadership for the Camp Greider L.I.T. program, serving as mentor, planner, and teacher for these campers during their weeks at camp.
This role requires a dynamic leader who excels in both mentorship and instruction, ensuring a transformative experience for both L.I.T.s and specialty camp participants throughout the summer.
Essential Functions
Greider Discovery Lead(Instructional Camps):
Plan and deliver age-appropriate lessons aligned with camp curriculum and learning objectives.
Lead instructional camp sessions (2 hours per day, 5 days a week).
Work with campers ages 6-15, divided into appropriate age groups (e.g., 8-9, 10-12, 11-13).
Manage groups of 8-16 campers in instructional settings, with the support of campcounselors.
Prepare, inventory, and maintain equipment before, during, and after activities.
Submit activity plans and supply requests in advance.
Set up and take down the program area daily.
Work within a budget, prioritizing efficiency and resourcefulness.
Co-teach and collaborate with another instructor when required.
Create and maintain a fun, inclusive, and safe environment for all participants.
Engage campcounselors, chaperones, or other staff to assist with activities.
Foster continuity, structure, and routines to enhance participant experience.
Work with camp staff to ensure consistent discipline, organization, and adherence to program policies.
Maintain open communication with the Camp Director and staff regarding any program needs or concerns.
Leadership in Training (L.I.T.) Responsibilities:
Work with the Assistant Director of Programs and the Camp Director to plan and design all aspects of the L.I.T. program.
Assume directorship of the L.I.T. Program upon its start, leading all activities, training, and mentorship for L.I.T. participants.
Provide coverage and support for any staff role as needed.
Ensure the health, welfare, and safety of campers under their supervision.
Maintain open communication with the Assistant Directors and Camp Director regarding the needs of staff and campers.
Assist in various camp areas as needed, including providing group coverage when necessary.
Communicate with families at check-in and check-out as needed.
Participate in all training, activities, classes, and planned sessions during pre-camp weeks.
Collaborate with the Camp Director and Camping Services Director to help design and implement staff training.
Foster a positive, cooperative working relationship with fellow staff, campers, and the camp community.
Demonstrate a commitment to quality, YMCA core values, and enthusiasm for working with youth of all ages.
Support and contribute to a safe, clean camp environment for staff and guests.
Maintain knowledge of association policies, procedures, risk management, and safety practices.
Support the YMCA's overall mission through camp programming and leadership.

Requirements
Entry Requirements
Must be at least 18 years old by the start of the camp season
Two years of college or equivalent experience in camp-related work preferred
Prior leadership experience with groups of children in camps, youth programs, educational settings, or community groups
Experience and knowledge in teen leadership programs, and prior work with adolescents ages 13-15
Prior experience developing and implementing curriculum for school aged youth, preferably in a camp setting
Supervisory experience, particularly in peer leadership, preferred
Strong desire and ability to work with children and teens
Ability to understand and prioritize the needs of campers and the camp community over personal needs
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working effectively with peers, supervisors, and children
Comfortable working in an outdoor environment and able to foster an appreciation for nature among campers
Demonstrates flexibility, maturity, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Enjoys working and interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds, with a special emphasis on children, while modeling and promoting the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility

Facilitating Mad Science Camp programs requires high energy and working with children. But, you don't have to be a scientist to work with us! We'll teach you everything you need to know and all the Mad Science tricks before sending you off on your own.
Working with children from 1st\-6th grade, you will inspire the next generation of scientists through our innovative camp program. Our staff is made up of teachers, ed\-techs, retired teachers, artists, farmers, aspiring teachers, people seeking diverse work experience, and all of the above!
As a Lead staff, you will be in charge of facilitating our curriculum. Most of the time, you will have the aid of our Assistant Instructors. You teach just one topic for the entire summer. Some topics include Robotics, Chemistry, Engineering, Inventing, Anthropology, and more! We do our best to match you with your desired themed for the summer.
Your daily hours come to about 6.5\-7 hours. After the first week, we build proficiency in our process. Please note, at our Portland location we run Aftercare, this runs until 5:30pm and we provide additional compensation. We have some weeks built in as days off, with the options to assist others or take the week off.

Located deep inside Oregon's Silver Falls State Park, historic Camp Silver Creek is a magical place for children and adults alike. Towering evergreens and a stream flow through the camp's four units. The Role:
The Arts and Crafts Leader oversees all creative activities at Camp Silver Creek. As a member of the program staff and a leader among the camp team, they maintain the arts and crafts lodge, plan engaging projects, and support staff during activity periods. They are responsible for ensuring safety, cleanliness, and proper preparation in all arts and crafts activities.
Essential Functions
Plan, prepare, and implement arts and crafts programs for skill groups, choice time, and group activities.
Support the Assistant Director of Programming in capturing photos and videos of camp activities, people, facilities, and scenery each week.
In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Programming, support broader camp programming by assisting with skill groups, large-group camp games, twilight programming, and other all-camp activities as needed.
Maintain organization and cleanliness within the arts and crafts area, ensuring a welcoming and efficient workspace.
Provide clear direction to staff assisting in arts and crafts, ensuring smooth facilitation of activities.
Enforce safety protocols for all arts and crafts materials and equipment, training and supervising staff to uphold safety standards.
Manage inventory of all arts and crafts supplies, track usage, and work with the Assistant Director of Programming to maintain budget compliance.
Conduct end-of-season inventory, assist with camp closing procedures, and ensure proper cleanup of the arts and crafts building and surrounding areas.
Promote and follow Leave No Trace principles, ensuring that arts and crafts activities minimize environmental impact on the surrounding natural areas.
Provide coaching and mentorship to staff, fostering professional growth, teamwork, and adherence to camp values.
Ensure compliance with ACA (American Camp Association) standards and all applicable safety and camp regulations.
