Attendance - Demonstrates responsibility and reliability in attendance for their Camp shifts. Ensure all dogs have a quick release collar with a name tag on it at all times. Notify Management if a correct collar or tag is needed. Turn on indoor and outdoor hoses in the yard. Ensure nothing is against the fence that would allow a dog to use it to jump the fence. Keep the yards clean by picking up and cleaning waste immediately. Remain in yard at all times unless relieved by another employee. Keep excess water off the floor. Pools: No more than 6 inches full & empty when necessary. Keeping multiple water bowls in the yards available and full. Dump water out and put fresh water in a minimum of once per hour. Assist with baths, when needed. Proper feeding of dogs. Clean play equipment by moving & flipping it. Set up boarding cabins - Ensure a fleece and cot or dog's own bed/blanket is in each cabin. Fresh bowl of water in each cabin. Deep clean the Back of House when necessary. Ensure nothing is against the fence that would allow a dog to use it to jump the fence. Keep the yards clean by picking up and cleaning waste immediately. Remain in yard at all times unless relieved by another employee. Keep excess water off the floor. Pools: No more than 6 inches full & empty when necessary. Keeping multiple water bowls in the yards available and full. Dump water out and put fresh water in a minimum of once per hour. Assist with baths, when needed. Proper feeding of dogs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supervises a group of children and program activities, keeping an accurate count of children in his/her group at all times and ensuring camper safety. Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records. Nurtures children through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with the Y's values. Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child's needs and progress; connects families to the Y. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training. LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES: Communication & Influence Developing Self & Others Program/Project Management Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED; one year or more of college preferred. Must like children; previous experience working with children in a camp setting preferred. Must be able to attend and complete all required day camp training. Previous experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: outdoor living, archery, camping, songs/music, crafts, STEM, team building, skits, sports, aquatics, or recreational games. Possess strong conflict management, decision making and communication skills. Ability to swim at least 25 yards, including deep water preferred. Capacity to be flexible and adjust to changing work environment. Previous experience working with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds. Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certifications and Child Abuses Prevention, Anti-Harassment, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazard Communication Awareness, and Slips, Trips, and Falls trainings required within 30 days of hire. SUMMARY OF POSITIONS Under direct supervision of the Assistant Recreation Supervisor, the Day Camp Counselor implements various summer camp and general recreation activities for children seven (7) to thirteen (13) years old. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Plan, organize and implement various summer camp activities for children ages 7 to 13 (i.e. sports, arts and crafts, nature activities, music, drama, field trips and cookouts). * Lead, supervise and conduct classes and activities. * Supervise children properly and respond immediately during emergencies, including administering first aid as necessary. * Assist in control of equipment and supplies. * Maintain attendance, discipline and other records. * Effectively communicate with children, parents/guardians, bus drivers, and the public. * Set-up and take down equipment, may require lifting up to 75 pounds (i.e. ice chests, equipment, etc.). * Drives van for field trips. * Arrive to work every day, on time as scheduled. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT * Must pass a drug screen and background check. . PHYSICAL DEMANDS Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, run and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to see, speak, and hear. Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50-75 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT The Day Camp Counselor will be required to work a majority of time outdoors in extreme heat and occasionally indoor in a climate-controlled building. Duties involve physical exertion such as standing, bending, stooping, crouching, lifting and reaching. Incumbent must be able to work from Monday through Friday.
