About This Position
Boston Nature Center Camp is seeking individuals to support experiential nature-based learning for campers. We aim to promote positive youth development, stewardship for the environment, and a respectful and inclusive safe space for all our campers.
The Farm Trekkers program is a partnership between camp programs at the Boston Nature Center and Drumlin Farm for campers to learn about food and farming between the two sites. Each week 10 Boston-area and 10 Lincoln-area children will care for farm animals, explore the two sanctuaries, work in the crop fields and gardens, and taste food you've gathered together.
Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee camper safety during field trips including driving to and from sister camp Drumlin Farm Camp in Lincoln, MA and field trip locations
Lead a group of children by exploring farms, gardens, hiking trails, and off-site community organizations on field trips
Work with a team to develop, plan, and implement age-appropriate food and farm-based lessons and daily activities for children
Assist iin cleanup/organization at the end of each day
Ensure health and safety of all children in group
Treat all campers with compassion
Act as a role model to both campers and colleagues
Regularly inspect, maintain, and alert leadership staff of any issues or needs for education program equipment, supplies, and/or materials
Participate in all camp activities such as drop off and pick up, opening and closing circles, all camp games, and camp set up and clean up
Create and maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for all campers and staff; make independent safety decisions when needed
Safely transport and oversee campers in vans and during offsite field trips

Camp staff training will be held from June 10th through June 19th, 2026. Camp runs from June 22nd through August 29th, 2026. Hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
Compensation and Benefits

Summary Description:
BB&N is seeking Summer CampCounselors for Summer Camp 2026. Group Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. The Group Counselor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and safely guiding campers in their personal growth, daily living skills, and daily activities. Our Junior Camp is made up of First through Third-grade campers. As Junior CampCounselors, we provide emotional support and positive reinforcement, encouraging social skills, teamwork, and conflict resolution to all of our kiddie campers.
We hire both Head Counselors (College graduates or older) and Junior Counselors (must be 17 years of age) for this role. We work hard, have fun, and are positive role models for our campers. Candidates must be dedicated, responsible, and eager to make every day fun at camp.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
CampCounselors are expected to be committed to the following:
Participate in developing and implementing high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for campers within BB&N's mission.
Supervise campers to ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and overall well-being.
Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff. Ensuring the site's cleanliness and adhering to all safety guidelines associated with the camp program.
Positively representing the camp when interacting with parents or community members. Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior.
Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, dietary restrictions/allergies, and daily attendance.
Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
Provide supervision for campers while campers are transported to and from camp or during scheduled field trips off camp property.
Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested.
Instruct campers in daily routines and cleanup tasks.
Work one-on-one with campers.
Instruct and organize camper projects (arts and crafts, dramatics, etc.).
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements, Skills, and Competencies:
The ideal candidate should have some experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
In addition, the candidate:
Must be 17 years of age
Must be available for training sessions on the nights of June 15th, 16th, and 17th.
Education and First AID and CPR certification, preferred.
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
Ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate management techniques.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
Some physical requirements of a general Counselor position could be endurance, including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs.
Salary: $15.00 - $22.00 per hour

The Role:
As a Camp Educator, you are energetic, fun, approachable, inclusive, smart, and have leadership qualities. You are ready to teach children how the farm, forests, and fresh food are all interconnected via hands-on activities in the barnyard, teaching kitchen, and during exploratory activities in the fields and forests of Powisset Farm.
Each day begins at 9AM by enthusiastically greeting campers and moves quickly to learning and fun! As a Camp Educator, you are responsible for planning outdoor nature and agriculture related activities and partner with livestock and kitchen staff on regular daily activities, including barn chores and cooking classes. Pick up at 3PM is filled with stories of the day's adventures.
This is a full-time, seasonal role reporting to the Camp Director. The typical schedule is a 37-hour work week, Monday through Friday for the nine-week season. Camp runs for eight weeks from June 22-August 14 plus a staff training week June 15-June 19. You are primarily responsible for planning and directing camp activities and direct supervision of their camper group (ages 6-11).
Specifically, you'll:
Supervise, educate, and care for campers.
Design and implement camp curriculum and activities based on farming, food, sustainability, and the natural world with support from staff and farm resources.
Plan daily developmentally appropriate activities and farm projects with camp team.
Lead daily plant and animal farm chores and nature activities with designated age groups between ages 6 and 11. Potential to lead daily plant and animal farm chores and nature activities with designated age groups between ages 12-14.
Communicate with camper parents regarding camp questions and basic camper information.
Perform daily camp staff chores to organize, prepare for, and close out each day.

Holding or working toward a Bachelor's degree in environmental or agricultural education, the sciences, education, or other relevant course of study is preferred, but not required.
Experience working as a campcounselor, classroom teacher, informal educator, and/or childcare provider with children ages 6-11.
A special interest in outdoor education, or working on a farm or in a kitchen
A willingness to learn, bringing passion and enthusiasm to working with young people each day.
CPR and Basic First Aid certifications required; an on-site training option will be provided.
