CampCounselors are highly motivated individuals that are responsible for the daily supervision, daily activity planning and implementation, safety, and group management of campers. Work is done under the general supervision of the Camp Coordinator, Lead Counselor or Full Time Park Staff.
Pay Rate: $15.25 per hour
Major Duties/Specific Tasks
Prepares and presents programs, crafts, games, and other outdoor educational activities.
Interprets and works with facility features that may include: animals, gardens, water features, trails, etc.
Works to provide a safe and fun learning environment for campers.
Provides basic first aid as needed.
Works as a counselor and co-leader of Summer Day Camps for rising kindergarteners through 10th graders.
Assists with preparation, cleaning, maintenance, and organization of camp areas and supplies.
Performs other park duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old.
At least 6 months experience with children in a structured setting or programs.
At least one year of college education in some natural resource field, parks and recreation, or education field (or equivalent training and experience) preferred.
Ability to work in the outdoors and inclement weather conditions for long periods of time.
Ability to participate in physical activities that may include, but are not limited to hiking over hilly terrain, water paddle tours, gardening, games.
Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED training.
Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children.
Must have reliable transportation.
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, campers, and work as a team.
Ability and desire to learn skills and information related to job.
Ability to pass a criminal background check.

The Leader may be asked to teach, organize or supervise select activities within an instructional class.DUTIES:
* Serve as a positive role model.
* Ensure children are properly supervised and accurate attendance is maintained AT ALL TIMES.
* Communicate clearly and courteously with school personnel, program staff, parents, volunteers and children.
* Plans and implements recreational activities within one or more program areas. Responsible for submitting program plans for approval in addition to acquiring all materials necessary for program implementation.
* Document and report all accidents, incidents, property damage, major disciplinary problems, and any related concerns to the Program Director or Program Supervisor.
* Maintain cleanliness of the facility, including picking up trash, sweeping floor daily, setting up and taking down of equipment, etc.
* Adhere to established uniform at all times. Dress appropriately for taking an active role with children.
* Implement and ensure compliance of all Howard County Recreation and Parks Policies, Procedures, and Camp Standards.
* Attend mandatory staff meetings and in-service trainings.
* Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Camp Director or Supervisor.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
* Must be 18 years old.
* Ability to communicate effectively with parents, peers and participants.
* Knowledge of program curriculum.
* Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, certification in Standard First Aid and Infant & Child CPR.
EXPERIENCE:
* Professional experience working with children, youth or teens.
* Previous Experience in teaching/leading recreational activities.
EDUCATION:

What You Will Do
Are you ready to help school-age campers learn and explore at the Carroll County Farm Museum? As a CampCounselor, you will educate campers participating in the Living History Camp. Reporting to the Farm Museum Manager, you will plan and lead learning experiences for 3rd - 6th graders related to 1800's rural life. Helping campers learn through crafts, farming, and demonstrations are the daily responsibilities of this role.

* Prepare and teach daily lessons and activities. Perform daily set up and clean up.
* Supervise, direct, and evaluate camp volunteers.
* Attend camp staff orientation and participate in scheduled staff meetings.
* Uphold all policies and regulations imposed by Museum Management and the Camp Director. Use Museum property and equipment responsibly.
