The Office of Youth, Campus, and Young Adult Ministries (OYCYAM) assists parishes and college campuses in the Catholic Diocese of Arlington to fully incorporate young people into the life of the Church. This is accomplished through advocacy for youth workers on the diocesan level, training and development of youth workers, large diocesan gatherings of young people, and facilitating collaboration and communication between all schools, parishes, and organizations.
The Assistant WorkCamp Coordinator supports the Office's annual weeklong WorkCamp, including all pre- and post-WorkCamp planning and logistics.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Works closely with the WorkCamp Coordinator to plan overall WorkCamp logistics and programing. Attends all WorkCamp diocesan-level meetings.
Works with social service agencies, community members, and other organizations to identify 80 to 120 potential WorkCamp residents each year. Designs and manages effective communication with residents and social service agencies about the program's application and assessment process and ensures understanding of program expectations, scope, limitations, and liability.
Establishes WorkCamp project sites in accordance with guidelines set by the WorkCamp Coordinator, i.e., number of projects, number of sites, degree of project difficulty, location, and distance from homebase.
Plans all phases of the WorkCamp construction projects from initiation to completion. Uses project management software to ensure the flow of project data and to document project progression. Makes final determination of repairs needed at each site. Ensures the repairs are designed in compliance with all local building codes and applies for all required permits.
Assists with the recruitment and training of contracted and volunteer WorkCamp project managers.
Assists in training a representative from each participating parish to prepare the parish team for project work as well as to build cohesiveness among team members. Ensures parish compliance with safety training requirements. Instructs parishes on which group tools they need to provide at WorkCamp.
Assists with the formation of WorkCamp crews and pairing crews to projects.
Identifies and selects volunteer contractors. Ensures contractors meet the appropriate level of compliance with child protection regulations. Prepares and distributes job site project plans. Plans and conducts one annual WorkCamp “Contractor Meeting.”
Places orders with vendors for construction materials and supplies. Creates accounts with hardware stores for contractors to purchase materials.
Prior to WorkCamp week, identifies both volunteer and for-hire contractors to complete WorkCamp projects and site clean-up tasks. Coordinates completion of all projects and cleanup of trash, materials, and project equipment post-WorkCamp.
Assist in the selection of a site for HomeBase. Establishes relationships with staff members of the facility used as HomeBase. Identifies, selects, and trains volunteers to staff HomeBase.
Provides general guidance and direction to staff and volunteers throughout WorkCamp week, including troubleshooting problems. Oversees all site projects during WorkCamp week, including being the primary point of contact for crews and volunteer contractors. Ensures all site projects are completed on time and on budget.
Recruits and provides training to WorkCamp Office staff and oversees Office staff operations during WorkCamp week.
Oversees site visit operations for visiting priests, seminarians, and other personnel.
Works in conjunction with the Office of Communications to identify potential sites for external and internal media needs.
Assists with the implementation of other Office of Youth, Campus, and Young Adult Ministries events and activities.
Plans and coordinates the annual Young Adult Ministry Mission trip.
Maintains audio/visual equipment for the office and collaborates with the Information Technology Department to implement software and hardware updates.

The Camp Counselor's primary task is to assist the Camp Instructor with daily functions to insure that each camper is provided a quality and enjoyable learning experience. Overall, The Camp Counselor will report directly to the staff of the Center for Business Development and Community Outreach (CBDCO). While providing support to a youth camp, the Camp Counselor will report to the Camp Instructor.

Organizational Mission:
The Appalachian Trail Conservancy's mission is to protect, manage, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
Highly qualified seasonal crew staff are recruited each year to support completion of routine trail maintenance, major rehabilitation/repair, and relocation projects. Crew Coordinators are critical to the effective operation of quality crew programs. They serve as hosts to the volunteers and are responsible for all activities necessary to ensure smooth operation of ATC's crew camps, including welcoming and orienting crew volunteers, purchasing crew food and supplies, assisting with crew vehicle maintenance, supporting fieldwork, etc.
Applicants must demonstrate responsibility, initiative, and self-motivation. They must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and cooperatively as a member of a team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan menus for crew meals in the field & at base camp, supervise & conduct meal preparation while the crews are at base camp.
Purchase food and supplies for crews efficiently and cost effectively, following ATC purchasing procedures.
Provide basic facility upkeep such as minor repairs, cleaning, submitting work orders, etc.
Support Crew Leaders by assisting with arrangements for routine maintenance or repairs to vehicles and tools and providing other assistance as requested.
Assist with program management duties, including financial record-keeping, monitoring spending trends, and maintaining budget integrity.
Ensure safe, clean, and environmentally sound conditions at the trail crew base camp.
Promote a positive, welcoming atmosphere amongst crew staff, volunteers, and partners.
Greet and orient newly arriving crew members to basecamp facilities, crew life while in base camp, and the history and purpose of the ATC and the volunteer crew program.
Coordinate flight/bus transportation of volunteers between designated pickup/return locations and base camp.
Follow the direction of designated supervisors with respect to duties, logistics, timetables, projects, submit biweekly timesheets, reports, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Two or more seasons of front/backcountry camping or working outdoors.
At least one season of trail crew leadership or camp coordination.
Ability to manage and be responsible for all support aspects of a trail crew program.
In good mental and physical health.
Commitment to ATC management and resource protection efforts.
Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to effectively communicate with individuals, groups, and partners.
Ability to live independently and work with little supervision.
Strong hiking and outdoor experience.
Experience in working with volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
Basic knowledge of Appalachian Trail Conservancy's cooperative management system preferred.
Comfortable working multiple days outdoors in frequently adverse weather conditions.
Current First-Aid and CPR certification or higher medical certification or license.
Willingness to participate in additional required training safe driving, etc.
Willingness to undergo background and driving record checks as required.
