This summer, we will host campers on our campus for nine weeks in June and July. We are seeking energetic and enthusiastic team members who are eager to contribute to a positive camp culture, support campers with care and consistency, and help bring our summer programming to life.
Position Description
As a Lead Counselor, you'll spend your days guiding a small group of campers through playful, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity, creativity, and connection. You'll be a steady, enthusiastic presence as campers explore art projects, outdoor games, team challenges, and imaginative storytelling designed to match their age and interests.
Each Lead Counselor is paired with an Assistant Counselor to oversee a group of approximately eleven to fifteen campers, depending on age. Activities are intentionally structured yet flexible, allowing campers to explore, collaborate, and build confidence in a supportive environment. You may be assigned a Junior Counselor depending on the size and age of your campers.
You'll be supported by your division Camp Coordinator, who will develop weekly themes, organize daily schedules and assist with the behind-the-scenes logistics so you can focus on your campers. You'll also collaborate with a close-knit team of educators who value creativity, reflection, and the belief that children are capable, curious, and full of meaningful ideas.
As a Lead Counselor, you're more than a supervisor-you're a mentor, role model, and facilitator of memorable break experiences that help campers learn, play, and grow together.
Requirements
Essential Functions:
Oversee safety and supervision, ensuring all children are accounted for, engaged, and supported during transitions, outdoor play, and indoor activities.
Lead the class with calm confidence, providing consistent boundaries, encouraging positive behavior, and supporting group cooperation through positive guidance.
Delegate tasks to the Assistant Counselor and Junior Counselor, providing clear direction, support, and constructive feedback as needed.

Counselors should be available to attend training for two days between May 26 - May 29, regardless of which weeks of camp you are working.

Our Break Camps create an exciting, joyful, and inclusive experience that brings together children from all over New Orleans in grades PreK to 7th grade for a week filled with creativity, play, and connection. In our Reggio-inspired classrooms, small groups of Little Gate students explore, create, and connect with teachers who know them deeply. Position Summary
A Little Gate Assistant Counselor supports the Lead Counselor in creating a joyful, nurturing, and exploration-rich environment for young children in our Reggio-inspired summer program. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys being part of a collaborative teaching team, values child-led learning, and brings energy, curiosity, and reliability to their work. Assistant Counselors help facilitate meaningful experiences, maintain a beautiful and organized classroom environment, and ensure campers feel safe, supported, and excited to explore each day.
Requirements Key ResponsibilitiesSupport Daily Experiences & Classroom Environment
Assist in setting up and facilitating art, outdoor play, water play, sensory investigations, and small-group explorations.
Observe children closely, noticing their interests and supporting their inquiries with warmth and responsiveness.
Help maintain a clean, organized, and aesthetically inviting classroom and outdoor environment.
Support toileting/diapering routines and other caregiving tasks as needed.
Relationships, Behavior Support & Community Building
Build warm, respectful relationships with children, fostering confidence, independence, and friendships.
Model positive communication, co-regulation, and supportive behavior guidance.
Encourage group cooperation and help create an inclusive, welcoming camp environment.
Assist in guiding minor conflicts and seek support from the Lead Counselor or Directors when needed.
Team Collaboration & Professionalism
Follow guidance from the Lead Counselor and collaborate on daily plans, materials, and routines.
Participate in team communication and daily reflection.
Communicate clearly with fellow counselors about expectations, routines, and any changes to the daily schedule.
Keep the Lead Counselor and Camp Directors informed of any camper concerns or notable observations.
Support daily routines including morning arrivals, meals, rest, hydration, and sun safety.
Health, Safety & Supervision
Ensure close supervision of children at all times and maintain awareness of their locations and well-being.
Assist with attendance, transitions, and risk-management procedures.
Monitor camper behavior and step in to guide or redirect as needed, promoting a safe and respectful environment.
Follow licensing procedures during meals, transitions, and all caregiving tasks.
Bring any concerns about a camper's health, safety, or emotional well-being to the attention of Camp Directors promptly.
Take on additional responsibilities as assigned to support a positive camp experience for all.
Qualifications & ExperiencePreferred
Experience working with young children in a school, childcare, or camp setting.
Enjoys helping children learn through play, exploration, and hands-on activities.
Required
Ability to pass background checks and complete licensing-required training.
A sincere desire to work with and be of service to children.
Dependable, energetic, creative, and team-oriented.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
