POSITION SUMMARY:The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator manages all aspects of the food service operations for PEAKs Milwaukee day camps, and will work to upkeep safe and clean spaces for all program participants and staff. POSITION AVAILABILITY:This position is 40 hours per week and must be available Monday - Friday, June 16 - August 7, working 7:45 am - 4:15 pm each day. BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY Oversee the daily operations of the day camp kitchen, including managing camper dietary restrictions and food-based health needs, providing and maintaining daily meal count documents, coordinating the process for supply purchasing and inventory, sanitizing the kitchen etc. Responsible for light custodial work and space reset after each meal and after snack time. Ensure the kitchen and community room is safe and usable. Haul garbage, recycling, and compost for proper disposal throughout the camp day. Oversee food service operations and meal tracking for the Summer Food Program, ensuring all nutritional requirements are met, required documentation is recorded, meal counts are submitted timely. Work within a budget to manage inventory and place food and supply orders. Supervise kitchen aides and high school interns. May be asked to fill in, as needed, in various other capacities to support Day Camp in achieving its mission. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS This position is compensated at a rate of $850 per week, pre-tax. Summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Experience and excitement about working with young leaders. Belief that with the right support and access to quality programs and experiences, all young people are able to achieve at the highest level imaginable. Enthusiasm about new experiences and ability to self-manage to bring a consistent level of energy all summer long. Must be detail-oriented and able to document accurately. Ability to receive constructive feedback and coaching from supervisor and make necessary adjustments. Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers to achieve program objectives. Ability to support, and work with all camper age ranges at camp. Commitment to being punctual and adhering to a schedule provided by camp leadership. Possess strong communications skills and apply them with coworkers and supervisors, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive staff and camper information when necessary. Ability to perform job duties in a fast-paced environment and able to embrace change and be flexible. Ability to provide job coaching constructively to team members. While not required, bilingualism (Spanish/English) would be beneficial. EDUCATIONAL, CERTIFICATIONS, & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS Must at least be 19 and have a high school diploma/GED before the position start date to apply. Must be able to pass PEAKs motor vehicle background check and driver training and safely drive/transport adults and children in PEAK vehicles, including a 12-passenger van. Current CPR and First Aid Certification (PEAK can support in attaining). SafeServ Food Safety certification is required (PEAK can support in attaining). REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator reports directly to the Program & Operations Coordinator. The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator will supervise several high school Interns (LTs) and a full-time seasonal Kitchen and Facilities Specialist. The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator will also work closely with the Youth Program Manager, Director of Finance and Operations, and Operations Manager. PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS The mental and physical requirements and work environment conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The work environment includes a variety of settings including tasks performed outside, in the kitchen, health center, agency vehicles, and some off-site locations. Day Camp programming is in constant motion. Campers and staff are interacting and moving around, doing various vigorous activities throughout the day, indoor and outdoor. This position may spend a large portion of the day outdoors and may remain standing or on their feet for long periods of time. Must be comfortable working in a city park as a significant portion of time will be spent at the PEAK Program Center in Tiefenthaler Park. Staff are required to actively participate in all camper activities, including water-related activities. Staff must be ready for new experiences and maintain a consistent level of energy all summer long. Position requires standing, stooping, sitting, walking long distances on uneven terrain (5+ miles a day), and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds with or without assistance. Camp activities are often loud, involving many people talking, yelling, cheering, etc., in indoor and outdoor settings. The camp environment is often hot, rainy, with bugs or other wildlife. Staff must be able to work outside in a nature setting for sustained periods of time without air conditioning. All PEAK Initiative properties, including Lake Valley Camp and the Milwaukee Program Center, are substance-free environments. Smoking, vaping, alcohol consumption, and the use of illicit drugs are strictly prohibited on all property regardless of whether or not staff are on break. POSITION SUMMARY: Community Camp Counselor facilitates all aspects of Community Camp, a daily drop-in program in Tiefentahler Park, and fosters meaningful community engagement through the facilitation, participation, and support of daily activities. POSITION AVAILABILITY: This position is 40 hours per week and must be available Monday - Friday, June 22 - August 7, with the ability to work 10am - 6pm. BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY Plan, coordinate, and lead Community Camp activities in Tiefenthaler Park. Support outreach initiatives through canvassing within the Midtown community. Assist in the supervision, guidance, and development of high school interns and volunteers. Actively engage with park visitors of all ages to build positive relationships and foster a welcoming environment. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS This position is compensated at a rate of $650, pre-tax. Summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees. Ability to receive constructive feedback and coaching from supervisor and make necessary adjustments Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers to achieve program objectives. Ability to live with, support, and work with all camper age ranges at camp. Commitment to being punctual and adhering to a schedule provided by camp leadership. Possess strong communications skills and apply them with coworkers and supervisors, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive staff and camper information when necessary. Ability to perform job duties in a fast-paced environment and able to embrace change and be flexible. EDUCATIONAL, CERTIFICATIONS, & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS Must be at least 18 and/or have a high school diploma/GED before the position start date to apply. REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS The Community Camp Counselor reports to the Community Programs Manager. The Community Camp Counselor may support and guide high school participant interns while they are assisting with programming. PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS The mental and physical requirements and work environment conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Staff are required to actively participate in all camper activities, including water-related activities. Staff must be ready for new experiences and maintain a consistent level of energy all summer long. Position requires standing, stooping, sitting, walking, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds with or without assistance. Camp activities are often loud, involving many people talking, yelling, cheering, etc. The camp environment is often hot, rainy, with bugs or other wildlife. Staff must be able to work outside in a nature setting for sustained periods of time without air conditioning. All PEAK Initiative properties, including Lake Valley Camp and the Milwaukee Program Center, are substance-free environments. Smoking, vaping, alcohol consumption, and the use of illicit drugs are strictly prohibited on all property regardless of whether or not staff are on break. Community Camp programming is in constant motion. Campers and staff are interacting and moving around, doing various vigorous activities throughout the day. This position may spend a large portion of the day outdoors and may remain standing or on their feet for long periods of time. Must be comfortable working in a city park as every day will be spent in Tiefenthaler Park. Location: Emily Oaks Nature Center, Earth Adventures Summer Camp The Canoe Leader will supervise and ensure the safety of elementary school-aged campers. Lead canoeing instruction at Emily Oaks Nature Center and other locations the camp may travel to. Coordinates and monitors daily bussing of Earth Adventures campers. Assists Directors with leadership and preparation for field trips, weekly cookouts, family nights and other duties as assigned. Maintains accurate records. Required to attend trainings and meetings as directed. Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Camp begins Monday, June 10, 2024 and runs through Friday, August 2, 2024. Must be available to attend two camp family nights, specific dates to be determined. Must be available to attend camp training the week of June 1, 2024, exact dates and times to be determined. Preference will be given to applicants that are available to work both sessions of camp. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. Previous canoeing and waterfront safety experience required. Must be enthusiastic about nature and enjoy working with children. Prior experience instructing canoeing, working with children and/or outdoor camp recreational programs preferred. Certifications: Must be certified in CPR, AED, First Aid, and lifeguard certification required. Lifeguard Waterfront preferred.
