The Camper Leadership Specialist is responsible for coordinating and leading all youth leadership programs at camp, including Program Aide (PA), Counselor-in-Training (CIT 1, 2, & 3), and True North experiences. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
Leadership Program Coordination
* Coordinate, deliver, and evaluate Program Aide, CIT, and True North programs.

Collaboration & Communication

Camp Lifeguard Responsibilities
Supervise and guard all swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensure that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed
Assist Camp Director/Staff with any pool related responsibilities as needed included but not limited to camper swim assessments
Warn swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforce pool regulations and water safety policies
Direct swimmers out of the pool in hazardous conditions
Provide rescues as needed
Administer first aid in the event of injury, rescue swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administer CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary
Evaluate conditions and monitor weather reports for safety and initiate aquatics emergency action plan as required
Inspect pool facilities, equipment, and water as well as maintain a clean environment in and around the pool area to ensure that they are safe and useable
Complete other duties, as assigned
All applicants must have up to date Lifeguard Certifications prior to starting work.
Our camp is located at Laurel Links Country Club in Laurel, NY. Camp will run Monday-Friday from July 6 through August 21 - staff members must be available to work the full camp season. Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance, exceeding camper and parent's expectations every day, which includes building and maintaining healthy professional relationships with parents, children, host agencies, and staff.
To participate and work cooperatively in all staff training events and staff meetings.
In sympathy with, and committed to, carrying out the Mission of the YMCA of Greater Hartford.
To know and use counselor's and camper's names.
All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 17 years of age or have completed the Camp Jewell Counselor in Training Program
Prior experience working with children of groups preferred.
Person must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.
Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR for Professional Rescuer required.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight.
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
