Junior Counselors: Ages 16-18
Senior Counselor: Ages 18+
Camp Dates: June 29 - July 17, 2026
Hours: Camp runs Monday-Friday from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. In addition to regular camp hours, counselors are scheduled to cover before camp (7:30-9:00) or after camp (3:00-5:30) shifts up to three times per week. Counselors rotate between early and late shifts.
Required Full Staff Training: June 1-5, 2026, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Pay Range: $15.00-$18.00

Position Summary
Campcounselors are the heart of Camp Discovery. Reporting to Leadership Staff, counselors create a safe,
inclusive, and engaging camp experience for children ages 5-14. Counselors lead and support a wide range of
activities, including recreation, arts and crafts, sports, games, drama, and hobbies, while modeling positive
behavior, building relationships, and ensuring the well-being of every camper aligned with our mission.
Qualifications:
Required:
Previous experience working with youth and adults
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
Successful completion of background check and sex offender registry screening
CPR certification or willingness to obtain (training provided)
Preferred:
One year of college or prior camp/counselor experience
Lifeguard certification or willingness to obtain (training provided)
Skills or experience in one or more areas: outdoor living, fine arts, music, theater, sports, aquatics, STEM, recreation games, etc.
Counselors will:
Supervise and support a group of 8-16 campers (ages 5-14).
Lead and participate in daily activities, including arts, crafts, sports, games, swimming, and hobbies.
Help plan and facilitate whole-group afternoon activities.
Maintain a safe, inclusive environment and enforce camp rules.
Build positive relationships and communicate respectfully with campers, families, and staff.
Assist with daily cleanup and general camp operations.
Respond to challenges with effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
Provide first aid when needed and follow all safety and risk management policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provide excellent customer service, leadership and mentoring to all day camp children, guests, staff and volunteers of all ages, ethnicity, and backgrounds.
* Proactively ensure a safe and clean environment for all day camp staff, volunteers, members and participants.
* Assist the Camp Lead as directed with monitoring activities provided by the day camp program including programming in all areas (i.e. gym, sports fields, pools, game room, classrooms, resource room, theater, festival plaza, etc.)
* Report and/or assist with any behavior issues or re-direction needed to the Camp Lead and/or Camp Coordinator.
* Provide additional support to all Kroc Center program staff, instructors, interns, and volunteers.

* The work schedule is Monday-Friday and may include a pre or post weekend day or evening event.

Position Summary:
The Lead Support Staff works closely with the Camp Director and leadership team to supervise counselors and ensure smooth daily operations. In addition, the Support Lead's attention to detail and organization is essential to the camp's success. This role oversees program areas (arts, sports, adventure, science, drama, etc.), supports staff, and ensures activities are safe, inclusive, and fun.
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Supervise and support counselors in daily activities
Coordinate activity setup and logistics
Ensure camper safety and adherence to camp policies
Lead group activities and foster teamwork
Serve as a positive role model and uphold camp values
Assist with planning and organizing whole-group events
Adapt to changing needs with problem-solving and conflict resolution
Qualifications:
Required:
Experience working with youth and adults
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
Background check and sex offender registry clearance
CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (completed before camp)
Lifeguard certification or willingness to obtain (training provided)
Preferred:
Some college coursework
Previous camp or youth program experience
Skills in one or more areas: outdoor living, arts, music, theater, sports, aquatics, STEM, recreation games
Experience working with diverse populations
Personal Qualities:
Possess a positive attitude.
Excellent written and verbal skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Proven success within a work setting requires collaboration, cooperation, and collegiality.
Physical Requirements:
Participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor and indoor settings.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists Summer Day CampCounselors with assigned group of children.
2. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
3. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
4. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
5. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
6. Actively participates in department and branch staff meetings and/or related trainings.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. At least 16 years of age
2. Ability to work with children aged 4-12 years in a day camp setting
3. Ability to supervise and play with children in a pool setting required
4. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games or art
5. Ability to work independently with attention to detail required
6. Complete before first shift: program-specific training
7. Complete within 30 days of hire: YMCA cause & culture training; BLS CPR/AED/First Aid
8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check.
9. Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training.
10. Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities.
11. Complete all required abuse prevention training prior to first shift.
