Mother's Outreach Network, Inc., (MON) based in Washington DC, is a non-profit, tax-exempt, racial justice and antipoverty advocacy organization that pursues the inclusion and empowerment of Black mothers in the struggle for family preservation by transforming government income and child welfare laws, policies, and practices from punitive to empowering. MON uses movement-lawyering strategies that will build parents' power to transform systems and that will aid in harm reduction against impacted constituents. MON does so through three primary programs:
The legal program, which provides representation, advice, and referrals for mothers who are facing adverse administrative decisions, with a focus on matters before the DC Child and Family Services Agency, that negatively impact family preservation and economic security;
The advocacy program, which seeks to transform income and child welfare/family regulation system policy at the local and federal level; and
The community engagement program, which includes outreach events, know-your-rights workshops in law and civic activism, as well as community-driven research and mutual-aid.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Senior Counsel for Family Justice and Policy will help lead the organization's D.C.-based legal and policy advocacy to end family separation and expand parent defense capacity in the District of Columbia.
This role combines deep expertise in family and child welfare law with a passion for systemic transformation. The Senior Counsel will drive efforts to transform the District's family regulation (“child welfare”) system-moving from one rooted in surveillance and punishment to one grounded in support, equity, and family unity.
The Senior Counsel will shape legislation, engage with the D.C. Council, work closely with stakeholders across the legal services community, mentor staff attorneys, and collaborate with impacted parents, community partners, and defense providers to advance policies that keep families together and strengthen the right to high-quality parent representation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Policy and Systems Advocacy (50%)
Lead the organization's advocacy to end unnecessary family separation and promote family preservation and integrity across the District.
Develop and advance legislative and administrative reforms before the D.C. Council, Mayor's Office, and CFSA that expand parent defense infrastructure and strengthen due process protections in child welfare cases.
Draft, analyze, and monitor D.C. legislation, regulations, and court rules related to family defense, reunification, and child welfare practice.
Develop policy briefs, model legislation, and reports that expose the harms of family policing and propose community-based alternatives.
Testify before the D.C. Council and participate in working groups, coalitions, and advisory committees focused on child welfare and family justice reform.
Advocate for increased public investment in parent representation and interdisciplinary family defense teams in D.C. Superior Court
Collaborate with impacted parents and parent defense practitioners to co-create reform proposals that reflect lived experience and practical needs.
Legal Strategy and Support (20%)
Conduct legal and policy research on D.C. child welfare law, CFSA practices, and parent defense systems.
Provide legal and technical support to family defense attorneys and community advocates navigating systemic challenges.
Identify opportunities for systemic advocacy or strategic litigation, including amicus briefs and administrative appeals, to protect parental rights and prevent family separation.
Analyze data and case trends to inform policy recommendations and advocacy campaigns.
Mentorship and Supervision (15%)
Supervise and mentor staff attorneys and legal fellows working on family defense and policy initiatives.
Support staff in developing expertise in D.C. family and child welfare law, legislative advocacy, and liberatory frameworks.
Provide ongoing feedback and professional development to ensure high-quality, community-centered advocacy.
Foster a supportive, collaborative, and justice-oriented team culture that prioritizes the well-being of staff and clients.
Coalition and Community Engagement (10%)
Serve as a core representative in coalitions, task forces, and advocacy networks advancing family justice in D.C.
Build and maintain partnerships with parent-led organizations, grassroots groups, and legal providers to strengthen collective advocacy.
Collaborate with the broader family defense and family policing reform movement to align strategies and share resources.
Public Education and Communications (5%)
Work with communications staff to develop accessible public education materials-including policy explainers, op-eds, and reports-on family separation and parent defense reform.
Conduct trainings, webinars, and community events to raise awareness about D.C.'s family regulation system and promote legislative solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the D.C. Bar (or eligibility for prompt admission under D.C. Court of Appeals Rule 49).
At least 7 years of legal experience, with substantial background in family defense, child welfare, or related family law practice.
Demonstrated commitment to ending family separation and advancing racial and economic justice for D.C. families.
Experience with legislative or policy advocacy, particularly at the D.C. Council or in comparable local government settings.
Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
Proven ability to mentor and supervise attorneys or legal staff.
Strong interpersonal and coalition-building skills, including experience collaborating with impacted communities.
Preferred:
Experience with the D.C. family regulation system, including CFSA, D.C. Superior Court's Family Court, and/or the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia.
Prior work with or within parent defense offices, legal service providers, or family advocacy coalitions.
Familiarity with D.C. legislative and budget processes and experience securing public investments in legal services or family support.

COMPENSATION
This is a full-time salaried position, and the salary range is $120,000 to $125,000 per year, commensurate with experience. A health, dental and vision benefits package is provided: health insurance is covered by 100% for the employee and available to dependents. All federal holidays and all holidays observed by the District of Columbia are observed, as well as the week between Christmas and New Year. Qualified attorneys may be eligible for up to $12,000 per year of loan repayment assistance.

The Opportunity
ERA is looking for an Attorney/Counsel with proven litigation experience in employment law and in the civil rights space. As a Senior Counsel or Senior Staff Attorney, you will be responsible for engaging in all aspects of impact and individual litigation, developing new cases for litigation, assisting in crafting litigation strategy, drafting and reviewing amicus briefs, and developing and maintaining litigation relationships to advance ERA's mission. The Senior Counsel or Senior Staff Attorney will report to ERA's Director of Litigation.
Primary Responsibilities
Conduct cutting-edge impact and individual litigation, including legal research; investigating facts, working with clients; drafting pleadings, briefs and legal memoranda; engaging in discovery and motion practice; and conducting evidentiary hearings and oral arguments in court.
Identify and develop new matters for litigation by conducting factual, legal and strategic analyses and formulating relevant theories and materials.
Draft amicus briefs and review amicus briefs drafted by others for possible ERA involvement.
Develop collaborative partnerships with other advocacy groups, legal services providers, plaintiffs' attorneys, law firms, and other partners by participating in task forces and coalitions, attending conferences, and co-counseling lawsuits.

Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications:
J.D. and at least one active bar membership;
A minimum of four (4) years of post-J.D. litigation experience, including drafting case documents and engaging in discovery and motions practice, including at least 3 years of experience litigating employment discrimination cases;
Demonstrated commitment to social, gender, and racial justice with a passion for achieving equity and economic justice for women, girls, and/or LGBTQI+ people;
Outstanding research, writing, and analytical skills;
Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team;
Excellent verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to give and receive feedback and resolve conflicts constructively;
Ability to travel to ERA's headquarters in San Francisco three or four times per year, if working remotely, and to travel occasionally as needed for litigation, meetings or conferences.
The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of the following professional and personal skills and attributes:
Experience engaging in legal advocacy on subjects related to ERA's mission, such as defending and expanding employment and education-related civil rights, protecting and advancing women's economic security, racial justice or immigrant rights, and/or combating gender-based violence;
Experience collaborating with progressive nonprofit organizations and/or plaintiff-side employment lawyers;

Compensation & Benefits
This position has a salary range of $85,000 - $125,000. The salary and job title (Senior Staff Attorney vs. Senior Counsel) will be determined based on years of experience and expertise.

Harford Community College is seeking two (2) seasonal Camp Coordinators for our Summer Youth Camps. Camp season begins June 22, 2026, and continues through August 14, 2026.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordinating daily operations of camp and enforcing camp operational and safety procedures; supporting camp staff with medical and behavioral concerns of campers; communicating effectively with parents/guardians, staff, and campers; collecting and maintaining camper enrollment documentation, attendance records and other paperwork associated with camps; and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy's mission is to protect, manage, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
Highly qualified seasonal crew staff are recruited each year to support completion of routine trail maintenance, major rehabilitation/repair, and relocation projects. Crew Coordinators are critical to the effective operation of quality crew programs. They serve as hosts to the volunteers and are responsible for all activities necessary to ensure smooth operation of ATC's crew camps, including welcoming and orienting crew volunteers, purchasing crew food and supplies, assisting with crew vehicle maintenance, supporting fieldwork, etc. Applicants must demonstrate responsibility, initiative, and self-motivation. They must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and cooperatively as a member of a team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan menus for crew meals in the field & at base camp, supervise & conduct meal preparation while the crews are at base camp.
Purchase food and supplies for crews efficiently and cost effectively, following ATC purchasing procedures.
Provide basic facility upkeep such as minor repairs, cleaning, submitting work orders, etc.
Support Crew Leaders by assisting with arrangements for routine maintenance or repairs to vehicles and tools and providing other assistance as requested.
Assist with program management duties, including financial record-keeping, monitoring spending trends, and maintaining budget integrity.
Ensure safe, clean, and environmentally sound conditions at the trail crew base camp.
Promote a positive, welcoming atmosphere amongst crew staff, volunteers, and partners.
Greet and orient newly arriving crew members to basecamp facilities, crew life while in base camp, and the history and purpose of the ATC and the volunteer crew program.
Coordinate flight/bus transportation of volunteers between designated pickup/return locations and base camp.
Follow the direction of designated supervisors with respect to duties, logistics, timetables, projects, submit biweekly timesheets, reports, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Two or more seasons of front/backcountry camping or working outdoors.
At least one season of trail crew leadership or camp coordination.
Ability to manage and be responsible for all support aspects of a trail crew program.
In good mental and physical health.
Commitment to ATC management and resource protection efforts.
Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to effectively communicate with individuals, groups, and partners.
Ability to live independently and work with little supervision.
Strong hiking and outdoor experience.
Experience in working with volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
Basic knowledge of Appalachian Trail Conservancy's cooperative management system preferred.
Comfortable working multiple days outdoors in frequently adverse weather conditions.
Current First-Aid and CPR certification or higher medical certification or license.

Lifeguards -May 27 - August 10. Assists with the implementation of the aquatic program at the pool as a lifeguard. Assists with unit programming in the evening when the pool is closed.
