Essential Job Functions
* Available for February School Break (2/23-2/27) and April School Break (4/20-4/24)
* Follow all departmental rules and regulations to ensure a fun, safe, and smooth camp experience.
* Assist in planning and delivery of exciting activities and enriching program.
* Check area for safety hazards and report deficiencies to supervisor.
* Attend staff meetings and staff trainings as required.
* Report all accidents and incidents occurring within jurisdiction to supervisor.
* Administer proper First Aid as required.
* Required to be on site 15 minutes before the program starts for setup and help with cleanup after the program comes to an end.
* Participation in a feedback-driven evaluation process.

GENERAL
The overnight camp counselor is primarily responsible for overseeing safety, fun, and proper sleep in the bunkhouse for students grades 5-8, during science camp field trips. Staff will be scheduled in pairs to oversee a bunkhouse with a maximum of 48 campers assigned to their respective bunkhouses.
This position supports the missions and operations of the Orange County Scouting America and the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center.
The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
REQUIREMENTS

Camp Lifeguard Qualities

Current certification in first aid and CPR (advanced certification may be required based on camp location and site of delivery of aquatic program)

Supervise and guard all swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensure that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed

Warn swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforce pool regulations and water safety policies
Direct swimmers out of the pool in hazardous conditions
Provide rescues as needed
Administer first aid in the event of injury, rescue swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administer CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary
Evaluate conditions and monitor weather reports for safety and initiate aquatics emergency action plan as required
Inspect pool facilities, equipment, and water as well as maintain a clean environment in and around the pool area to ensure that they are safe and useable
