POSITION SUMMARY: The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator manages all aspects of the food service operations for PEAK's Milwaukee day camps, and will work to upkeep safe and clean spaces for all program participants and staff. POSITION AVAILABILITY: This position is 40 hours per week and must be available Monday - Friday, June 16 - August 7, working 7:45 am - 4:15 pm each day. BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY Oversee the daily operations of the day camp kitchen, including managing camper dietary restrictions and food-based health needs, providing and maintaining daily meal count documents, coordinating the process for supply purchasing and inventory, sanitizing the kitchen etc. Responsible for light custodial work and space reset after each meal and after snack time. Ensure the kitchen and community room is safe and usable. Haul garbage, recycling, and compost for proper disposal throughout the camp day. Oversee food service operations and meal tracking for the Summer Food Program, ensuring all nutritional requirements are met, required documentation is recorded, meal counts are submitted timely. Work within a budget to manage inventory and place food and supply orders. Supervise kitchen aides and high school interns. May be asked to fill in, as needed, in various other capacities to support Day Camp in achieving its mission. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS This position is compensated at a rate of $850 per week, pre-tax. Summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees. EDUCATIONAL, CERTIFICATIONS, & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS Must at least be 19 and have a high school diploma/GED before the position start date to apply. Must be able to pass PEAK's motor vehicle background check and driver training and safely drive/transport adults and children in PEAK vehicles, including a 12-passenger van. REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator reports directly to the Program & Operations Coordinator. The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator will supervise several high school Interns (LTs) and a full-time seasonal Kitchen and Facilities Specialist. The Day Camp Kitchen Coordinator will also work closely with the Youth Program Manager, Director of Finance and Operations, and Operations Manager. PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS The mental and physical requirements and work environment conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The work environment includes a variety of settings including tasks performed outside, in the kitchen, health center, agency vehicles, and some off-site locations. Day Camp programming is in constant motion. Campers and staff are interacting and moving around, doing various vigorous activities throughout the day, indoor and outdoor. This position may spend a large portion of the day outdoors and may remain standing or on their feet for long periods of time. Must be comfortable working in a city park as a significant portion of time will be spent at the PEAK Program Center in Tiefenthaler Park. Staff are required to actively participate in all camper activities, including water-related activities. Staff must be ready for new experiences and maintain a consistent level of energy all summer long. Position requires standing, stooping, sitting, walking long distances on uneven terrain (5+ miles a day), and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds with or without assistance. Camp activities are often loud, involving many people talking, yelling, cheering, etc., in indoor and outdoor settings. The camp environment is often hot, rainy, with bugs or other wildlife. Staff must be able to work outside in a nature setting for sustained periods of time without air conditioning. All PEAK Initiative properties, including Lake Valley Camp and the Milwaukee Program Center, are substance-free environments. The After-School Camp Counselor member is responsible for supporting participants with daily routines, personal care, academic assistance, and recreational activities in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment. This is a new program, so the hours may vary but we are anticipating around 21 hours per week. Work schedule will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM and Wednesday from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM. The Summer Day Camp Leader works directly with children and leads general activities such as arts and crafts, sports, educational, and other age-appropriate activities.
