Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be at least 19 years of age.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Two or more years of college/trade school or previous experience working with children, preferably in a overnight camp setting
Experience working with youth and supervising staff
Certifications: CPR, AED & First Aid.
Must complete Online Training prior to arrival at camp
Experience working with youth and supervising staff
Strong desire to work with children in the outdoors
Must be able to self-regulate your emotions in a fast-paced community environment

Hiring Timeline:

Schedule:
CampCounselors work during Lenexa s Summer Camp season (June through early August), Monday through Friday.
Camps are held at the following locations:
Lenexa Rec Center, 17201 W. 87th St. Pkwy.
Old Town Activity Center, 13420 Oak St.
Pre-season staff training and winter/spring break camp shifts may also be available and are highly encouraged to prepare for the summer season. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for special events.
Position Summary:
CampCounselors lead and engage groups of children in daily recreational activities, games, crafts, and field trips. Under the supervision of a Head Counselor, the position ensures a safe, inclusive, and exciting camp experience for all participants.
Key Responsibilities:
Organize and lead children in various activities.
Supervise and guide children in your group under the direction of a Head Counselor.
Communicate effectively with campers, staff, and parents.
Ensure the health and well-being of participants, adhering to all safety and emergency procedures.
Model professionalism and a positive attitude at all times.
Assist with participant check-in and check-out.
Maintain and clean program areas after use.
Support special events by hosting booths or leading activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Experience planning, organizing, and leading activities.
First Aid/CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of employment (City-provided training).
The rate of pay is $15.00 per hour.
Environmental and Physical Factors: Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings and requires the ability to lift and move program supplies and equipment. Long periods of standing and active participation in recreation activities are common.
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug screen and fingerprint-based background check (as required by the State of Kansas). An additional background check will be conducted for applicants aged 18 or older.
