Camp Highland company history timeline

1993

Camp Highland traces its early beginnings back to Lula, Georgia, 1993.

In 1993, while Bill was in software sales, he began taking kids on camping trips to his dad’s property.

1996

Bill Chapman, director and founder, along with his wife Betsy and a small group of trained volunteers introduced schools, churches and businesses to the thrill of growing to know Christ through high-adventure.In 1996 Camp relocated to the outskirts of Dahlonega, Georgia.

1997

With the addition of the Drop Zone in 1997, the High Course holds something for everyone, from the first time camper to the Camp Highland veteran.

1999

The initial goal for this building was to create a year-round gathering place for youth, and in 1999, after much planning and preparation, board chair Tony Brenneman took a year off to be the foreman of this large construction project.

2000

And, when November of 2000 rolled around, a couple from Baton Rouge, Karl and Shelley Alexander, entered the pages of our story when they purchased Camp Highlander, fulfilling their lifelong dream of owning and operating a summer camp.

2005

Danny started working with Camp Highland back in January 2005 as Director of Operations.

2017

She came on staff full time in June of 2017 to begin working with school partnerships.

Jake started working as an Overnight summer staff member in 2017.

2018

Katrina joined our team first as a summer staff counselor back in 2018.

2020

He then joined us for the 2020 Internship.
