And so it began in the summer of 1982, supported by a shared goal of investing in the future of our community.
Camp Horizon was founded in 1982 when a handful of friends decided to find a way to positively impact the community.
Camp Horizons has been accredited by the American Camp Association since our very first summer back in 1983.
In 1999, Camp Horizon expanded its programming by adding the Leadership Development Program for campers ages 12-18 who had previously attended Summer Camp.
As a result of John’s business endeavors and achievements, he received the 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce.
Our newest program created in 2010 is the Camp Horizon Adult Mentoring Program (CHAMPs). It is designed for our graduate campers ages 18-23.
Horizon Day Camp started in 2016, sharing the mission to to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings world-wide, through the creation Day Camps, Year-Round Programs and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, all offered free of charge.
