Campbell University history

The Business Department was subsequently established in 1893.

Shortly thereafter, in 1896, the little school in the creek officially became the Buies Creek Academy and Commercial School to denote both the liberal arts and the business departments.

In 1961, the school again changed its name, after having achieved the status of a senior college.

In 1968, Campbell established the nation’s first undergraduate major in Trust and Wealth Management.

In 1975, Burrows T. and Mabel L. Lundy founded at Campbell one of the nation’s first Chairs of Free Enterprise.

The law school was founded in 1976.

In 1979, the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law opened, and the school’s name changed to Campbell University.

The Pharmacy School and School of Education were established in 1985.

Since its establishment in 1986, Campbell University School of Pharmacy, now College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, has maintained a 99 percent passage rate on both state and national exams.

100 percent of the School of Pharmacy students pass the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX). In 1994, the School of Law students had a 100 percent passage rate on the North Carolina Bar Exam.

The Divinity School was established in 1995.

The Divinity School officially opened on August 19, 1996.

The program grew rapidly and by 1998, just three years after the Golf Management degree was established, Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of America approved the PGA Golf Management program.

The Buies Creek census-designated place population was only 2,215 in the 2000 census and the surrounding area remains rural.

Shortly thereafter, Certifying Trust Bankers School was established (renamed Trust Advisors Forum in 2003).

South of Leslie Campbell Avenue are more residence halls, including the new student apartments in Barker Hall (2005). South of United States Highway 421 are athletic fields and the Campbell Football Stadium.

The School of Law Class of 2006 scored a 97% passage rate on July’s North Carolina Bar Exam, topping all other law schools in the state.

Campbell sold the station in 2007.

In 2009, Campbell’s Law School was relocated from the Buies Creek campus to downtown Raleigh.

In August 2011, the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences launched a master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS). One year later, it began a Master of Science in Public Health degree program.

In 2012, the undergraduate acceptance rate was reported at 40.5%. Along with Campbell's premier undergraduate programs, the school has also achieved renown for its graduate programs.

The School of Osteopathic Medicine, North Carolina's first new medical school in more than 35 years, opened in August 2013.
