By the close of the 1830's, however, the central Wisconsin wilderness, the new Northwest, became a focal point for easterners hoping to create new lives for themselves.
The original old Village in the town of Auburn was built in 1845 on the main branch of the Milwaukee River.
The new Village was built after the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Co. was built in 1872 in the Town of Ashford.
In 1873 the name changed to Campbellsport.
St Joseph's Convent, the home of the aged, the infirm, and the retired Sisters of the School Sisters of St Francis, whose first Motherhouse in the United States was established in 1874.
There was a large space between the two villages and finally in 1902 they were incorporated under the name Campbellsport.
One of the first big fires took place in 1908 when the Seaman, Loebs & Knickel building, which stood at the bank corner (now Doctor Krebs Office Building) burned to the ground.
In 1922, January 19, the Campbellsport Community Center Public Library was established above the First State Bank, 101 W. Main St, by Albert Schwandt, high school director, and George R. McKenny, high school principal.
The most spectacular fire in Campbellsport's history took place in the summer of 1933.
Roate served as served as president of the library board since 1971.
The Village purchased what was at one time the movie theater and remodeled the front of the building for rentable office space in 1974.
In 1974 for the first time, the public library received a donation of $1, 000 from the estate of Lucile Hilbert who had also donated many fiction books.
In June of 1981 the Campbellsport Area Jaycee's ball diamond was dedicated and named Ron Rohlinger Field.
Universal Foods gave the sum of $600 in 1982 to purchase a TV and video disc.
The New Cassel Heights Addition Subdivision was developed in 1988.
The new park near the Wastewater Treatment Plant was developed in 1991 and named Columbus Parc.
Ground was broken for a new library in April of 1997 at the new site on North Helena Street.
With the majority of the construction completed in September 1997, the Campbellsport Public Library ceased operations in the old building and moved into the new building.
The new library opened for business in November of 1997.
The lower level meeting rooms were built and ready for public use in the fall of 2003.
