- Interpret complex medical information in electronic medical records to support critical program activities including direct patient care, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Responsible for data collection, entry, and submission, report preparation, and data sharing for process improvement initiatives, benchmarking and outcomes research.
Education :
Minimum - Associate's degree in Cancer Information Management (CIM). Three (3) years of cancer data abstraction experience may be considered in lieu of degree in addition to experience below.
Work Experience :
Minimum - One (1) year of healthcare experience involving medical terminology, cancer data abstraction or a cancer related field.
Preferred - Three (3) years of healthcare experience involving medical terminology, cancer data abstraction or a cancer related field.
Licenses and Certifications :
Minimum - Certification as Tumor Registrar within 18 months of start date

The Cancer Registrar must select and abstract all cases of malignancy diagnosed and/or treated at Community Medical Center, cases with a history of cancer or cases of consultation only into the Cancer Registry Data Base for submission to the State of New Jersey. The cancer registrar will assist the Coordinator in completing information requests, creation of the Cancer Program Annual Report, and monitoring the quality improvement process
REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required within one (1) year of hire.

. In this role, you will be responsible for abstracting and coding medical information from medical records of cancer patients in accordance with guidelines and definitions of the California Cancer Registry (CCR), Surveillance, Epidemiology and End-Results (SEER), the Cottage Health Cancer Registry, the American College of Surgeons (CoC, NAPBC, and NAPRC).This position will act as an integral part of the the Cancer Data Center, including a variety of tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the department. Prepares patient protocols and agendas for cancer conference case presentations and other educational conferences. Conducts casefinding to determine reportability of new cancer cases obtained from sources such as the electronic medical record, radiology, or pathology reports. Maintains annual follow-up information about the current health of each patient whose case is entered into the registry, as required by the ACoS.

QUALIFICATIONS
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Minimum: Certified as Certified Tumor Registrar by NCRA
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum: Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, histology, hematology, diagnostic procedures, Collaborative Staging, Extent of Disease staging, TNM staging, cancer treatment, and disease coding. Detailed knowledge of the American College of Surgeons, CoC and NAPBC standards, California Cancer Registry and SEER standards.
Preferred: Experience using CNEXT, EPIC, and MS Office software
YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum: 3+ years abstracting experience. Experience in a professional services environment.
Preferred: Strong reporting and data analytical skills.
