This Lead Researcher position in the lab of Dr. Liqin Zhu in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is seeking a dedicated and motivated cancer researcher, ideally with a Ph.D. degree in the field of life science, to investigate the biological mechanisms driving the metastasis and relapse of pediatric and adult liver cancer.

The metastatic and recurrent forms of liver cancer are often incurable. The efforts to develop more effective treatment have been hampered by the lack of relevant model systems for detailed biological investigation these advanced forms of liver cancer. Our laboratory has established multiple mouse and organoid models of different liver cancer subtypes and have identified intriguing cellular and molecular plasticity of liver cancer cells responsible for their dissemination and drug resistance. We are looking for a motivated researcher with extensive experience with 2D and 3D cultures of human and mouse tumor cells, tumor transplantation models and gene functional analysis to work on the underlying mechanisms driving metastatic and recurrent liver cancer. Basic bioinformatic skills are welcome but not required.
Minimum Education

* Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required
* Ph.D. preferred

Minimum Experience

* Five (5) years of relevant, post-degree work experience is required with a Bachelor's degree
* Two (2) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master's degree
* No experience is required with a Ph.D.
* Training in in vitro and in vivo models of cancer
* Experience in molecular cancer biology

By hosting more than 100 postdocs, who conduct vital research and receive advanced training with expert faculty mentors, Cedars-Sinai supports the ongoing medical education process that continues beyond PhD/MD graduation.

The diverse group of research labs involved in cancer research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centerand within the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute conduct basic and translational research in many cancer types including breast, prostate, lung, liver, leukemia, lymphoma melanoma, pancreas, gastric, glioblastoma and ovarian cancer. Their projects cover a wide range of topics, including extracellular vesicles, cancer stem cells, drug delivery, drug design, cancer genomics, cancer metastasis, cancer immunology and cancer microenvironment with the goal of discovering and implementing more effective ways to diagnose, treat and prevent various forms of cancer. Postdoctoral researchers serve as the driving force behind these research endeavors. Recognizing the need to connect and support the postdoctoral fellows in cancer biology, the Cancer Cluster will provide a new platform for postdoctoral fellows to exchange ideas, share their accomplishments and progress, seek constructive feedback for research-related issues and obtain advice on career development and training. Through organized social events and research retreats, the Cluster will encourage discussion and multidisciplinary collaborations among postdoctoral fellows. Any suggestions or ideas for activities to strengthen the interactions and bond among cluster members are welcome.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:







May assist in preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator.
May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data.
Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period.
Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.







Education:



Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization within previous four (4) year



Experience:



Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization. Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment. Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment. Knowledge of safety standards and maintenance of specialized equipment.
