In the Jesuit tradition, Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, offers rigorous academics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to traditional liberal arts and humanities majors, Canisius offers professional and pre-professional programs. For example, students are encouraged to undertake community-based learning, internships, research and study abroad programs. Another way that students learn and grow outside of the classroom is through college life offerings, which include a guest writer's series and more than 100 student organizations and clubs. Admissions at Canisius are fairly competitive and most admitted students have a grade point average of at least 87% and a combined SAT score of at least 1020. Requirements include submission of an application, transcripts, test scores, an essay and recommendation letters. Canisius uses rolling admissions. Financial aid is available to eligible students. For financial aid recipients, Canisius does its best to cover as much of their tuition as possible with grants and scholarships, after which loans may be taken out to cover the remaining amount.
