Canisius College company history timeline

1890

In 1890 the first master's degree was awarded.

1894

Canisius began offering graduate courses in 1894.

1897

In 1897 the college was authorized to award the Regents Diploma for the first four years of study, and at this point it made sense to separate into two institutions, Canisius High School and Canisius College.

1917

Special emphasis will be placed on the causes and consequences of the 1917 revolutions, the development of Stalinism, the Cold War, and late Soviet society.

1920

In 1920, its jubilee year, the college introduced the BS degree, intended for students who wanted more experience in technological, premedical, and industrial areas.

1921

Middle States accreditation was first awarded in 1921.

1927

The international Peace Bridge to Fort Erie, Ontario, was opened in 1927 as a memorial to 100 years of peaceful relations between the United States and Canada.

1930

The original AB requirements became by 1930 a core curriculum consisting of nearly half the credits for the full degree, with religion and philosophy having the largest shares, at 18 credit hours each.

1965

The student body was all male, a tradition that would continue in some form until the college became fully coeducational in 1965.

1971

The first MBAs were awarded in 1971.

1982

BUFFALO, NY - In 1982, Alan G. Weinstein, PhD, taught the first entrepreneurship course offered at Canisius.

1990

Weinstein taught the MBA course in entrepreneurship every other year until the launch of the Entrepreneurship Center in 1990.

1998

The School of Education offered counselor education, sport administration, special education, college student personnel administration, literacy education, athletic training, health and human performance, and Montessori education, the last being phased out in 1998.

2000

The Center closed its doors in 2000, 10 years after its launch.

2004

She launched the Canisius chapter of SIFE (now called Enactus), in 2004, to encourage students to engage in entrepreneurship.

2006

Although a program on paper, it really did not gain momentum until Ji-Hee Kim, PhD, associate professor of entrepreneurship, arrived in 2006 and developed the curriculum with the help of grants from the Kaufman Foundation.

2007

In 2007, Hutton was named the college’s first Tower Professor.

2009

In 2009, Weinstein proposed Entrepreneurs on Campus to Antone (Joe) Alber, PhD, then dean of the Richard J. Wehle School of Business.
