GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the shift Sergeant or other senior officer, this employee performs general work, enforcing state and local laws and statutes, involving the patrol of an assigned area, traffic regulation and enforcement, accident, and crime scene investigation. An element of personal danger is involved, and officers must be able to respond and react properly in varied emergency and stressful situations, exercising independent judgment in performance of duties. Other duties include writing reports, processing evidence, computer data entry, and use of related equipment. This position requires a willingness to work irregular hours, evening or night shifts, weekends, and holidays as necessary to assure protection for the public. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Patrol assigned area in city in a one-man unit. Respond to calls from the dispatcher and react in a calm, professional manner. Investigate/search accident and crime scenes, assembling evidence. Complete routine and special reports on accident, crimes, and other incidents. Act as “First Responder” to fire and emergency calls, being prepared to administer first aid if necessary. Prepare and serve arrest and search warrants. Work as traffic control at scenes as necessary. Testify in court as needed. Apprehend criminals and offenders, processing prisoners. Locate and question witnesses. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS: High school graduate or equivalent. Previous experience/knowledge desired. Ability to follow through on work assignments and perform in stressful situations. Ability to act promptly, taking effective action. Good verbal and written communications skills - ability to speak clearly and distinctly. Must be at least 20 years of age. Must be a U.S. citizen. Vision must be correctable to 20/20. Must have a valid New Mexico driver's license. Must have valid Police Officer certification by the NM Law Enforcement Academy or obtain certification within one (1) year of employment (see below). Job requires continued maintenance of firearm qualifications standards. Certification from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy, located at either Santa Fe or Hobbs, NM, must be completed within one (1) year or employment if applicant is not already certified. Failure to complete the academy for any reason will put officer's employment in jeopardy and will most likely be terminated. The academy consists of 24 weeks of intensive training in academics, physical fitness training, self-defense tactics, firearms, and driving. The physical fitness program consists of circuit training, aerobics, and running from one and one half (1-1/2) to five (5) miles per day. Each portion must be completed with a minimum score in the academics and a maximum time for physical activities. Preference will be given to certified officers. COMMENTS ON PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The majority of the time, police work involves patrolling an assigned area for the purposes of preventing and discovering crimes which does not require heavy physical activity. However, the Police Officer needs to be able to respond actively to any situation in which the public or the officer may be in danger. Physical fitness needs to be maintained as well as mental alertness. The Police Officer is required to pass a physical agility test before being hired, which will include a 1 ½ mile run. Persons selected for employment must also successfully complete a physical exam with vision correctable to 20/20, psychological examination and drug screening. WORK SCHEDULE : The regular work week is 12 straight hours a day for 3 or 4 days a week - shift work, most weekends and holidays. Schedule to be determined. The AF FAP is a Department of Defense, (DoD) funded program whose purpose is to both prevent and respond to intimate partner abuse, child abuse, and problematic sexual behavior with children and youth. Job Description: The Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate (DAVA) provides AF personnel, their family members, or intimate partners who are victims of intimate partner abuse non-clinical emergent and urgent service whenever requested. With the exception of mandatory state, federal, and military reporting requirements (i.e., domestic violence, child abuse, and duty to warn situations) the DAVA provides a private and confidential service to encourage victims in seeking assistance. Essential Functions: Provides 24/7 response to victims alleging abuse (these services are provided based on the needs of client via telephone or in-person). Establish a Victims Safety Plan on a case-by-case basis. The victims safety is the DAVAs top responsibility and priority. The DAVA will review the Safety Plan during each victim contact. Conduct initial and ongoing risk assessments. If imminent risk of serious harm or death is established, notify the social work supervisor, law enforcement, and Command. If children are involved, the process also includes child physical safety and emotional well-being; refer involved children to the social worker for follow-on care. Immediately report any changes in the victims circumstances that changes or impacts the safety plan to the supervisor and/or social worker or mental health provider in charge. Advise victims of the military or civil actions available to promote safety (e.g., military order of protection, restraining order, and injunction). Offer victims information regarding their identified needs (e.g., emergency shelter, housing, childcare, legal services, clinical resources, medical services, transitional compensation). Accompany clients to appointments or court proceedings when requested by the client. Assistance with transportation is typically not provided to clients, however, after consultation with the social work supervisor and when no other reasonable means exist the DAVA may transport the victim to important appointments (i.e.: medical, court, protective actions). The DAVA cannot transport minor children unless accompanied by the parent or legal guardian and has the appropriate safety restraints in the vehicle. Establish a contact file for each victim served that contains minimal information about the allegations or nature of the incident. The primary purpose of the DAVA contact file is to maintain victims name and contact information as well as a log of the victim contacts and nature of the contacts or service provided by the DAVA. Develop process to keep the social work supervisor and designated POC (e.g. on-call mental health provider, emergency room.) informed of DAVAs location and timelines when providing DAVA victim services. This process will include location, arrival, and departure notification. Continually evaluate the quality of the installations coordinated community response and collaborate with base agencies to improve the system response to victims. Empower victims to be involved in plans or decisions about the safety of self and children. Collaborate and establish protocols with Security Forces Squadron (SFS), Office of Special Investigations (OSI), and Military Medical Treatment Facilities confirming. At the discretion of the Social Work Supervisor, the DAVA may also provide emotional support and information and referral services to the non-offending caregiver in a child maltreatment or youth sexual assault case. Required Education and Experience/Qualifications: Must possess a minimum of a bachelors degree from an accredited University in any of the following disciplines: Social Work; Psychology; Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling; Counseling or Behavioral Science; Criminal Justice, or related field. Must possess 2 years of experience assisting and providing advocacy services to victims of domestic violence/abuse or sexual assault. Must obtain the Basic Advocate Credential with designation of Comprehensive Intervention Specialist as approved and offered by the National Advocate Credentialing Program, which is overseen by the National Organization for Victims Assistance. Must pass a criminal history/Security Clearance background check. Must have transportation and a valid drivers license.     THE CITY OF PORTALES, NEW MEXICO POSTING # 2025-15 MECHANIC I DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE STATUS: NON-EXEMPT / SAFETY SENSITIVE REPORTS TO: PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE DEPARTMENT HEAD SHIFT: FT REGULAR- 40 HOURS PER WEEK SALARY: $15.72 HOURLY/$32,697.60 ANNUALLY *This is a Safety-Sensitive Position, subject to random drug/alcohol testing. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Reports to the Public Infrastructure Department Head or their designee and are required to perform numerous and varied routine duties involving overall care, maintenance, safe and effective operation of one or more vehicles, or pieces of equipment, maintain logbooks, and report all malfunctions. Must be able to perform physical labor for sustained periods of time with exposure to the elements. Work involves light to heavy lifting as well as general maintenance of the City's vehicles and facilities. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Although the following are typical of the tasks and responsibilities routinely performed, additional tasks and /or responsibilities requiring comparable or skills, knowledge, or dexterity may be assigned. 1. Safe, efficient, and effective maintenance of city vehicles, small engines, and equipment. 2. Perform routine cleaning of facility as directed. 3. Washing and cleaning vehicle, equipment, tools, and parts. 4. Running errands, purchasing parts, etc. 5. Weld and fabricate. 6. Work on and with pneumatic and hydraulic systems. 7. Work on or with the maintenance software that the City may acquire. 8. Maintenance on Freon / EPA 609 MVAC systems. 9. On-call responsibilities for after-hours duties. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS: 1. High school graduate or equivalent desired. 2. ASE certification preferred but not required. 3. 5 years related experience preferred or any combination of training experiences. 4. Ability to operate various manual and/or motor driven tools. 5. Ability to work with minimum supervision. 6. Must be at least 18 years of age. 7. Show aptitude for safe operation of assigned automotive equipment. 8. Must follow instructions, procedures and City safety rules and regulations. 9. Accurately determine mechanical repair needs and estimate the cost and time of repairs. 10. Previous work experience on diesel engines preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: 1. Ability to maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time, driving, or riding in vehicles or equipment. 2. Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds. 3. Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds frequently, from ground to waist level, or from ground to shoulder level. 4. Ability to squat, bend, twist, climb, and kneel for up to 4 hours as a time, and up to eight hours per day. 5. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, squat, crouch, and crawl and work in confine spaces. 6. Noise level could be moderate to loud in work environment. 7. Ability to drive, occasional long distances. 8. Work with machinery. 9. Must possess ability to adapt to inclement weather conditions and/or situations. 10. May be exposed to dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment. 11. Must be able to climb in and out of equipment cabs, and crawl about heavy equipment, as needed. 12. Worker is exposed to diesel fumes, as well as fumes from carbon, gasoline, and acetylene gas. 13. Work may be performed on an even or uneven surface, which may be wet or dry. Work may be performed on inclines, working surface may be flat and hard, asphalt or concrete. Surface may be slick or greasy. 14. Work hazards, or potential work hazards, include working around hot engines, using air guns, working with, and lifting large equipment and parts and working with various solvents. WORK SCHEDULE: The regular work week is 40 hours - Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., one hour off for lunch. Additional time may be required to work after regular hours, on weekends, and holidays. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Limited travel - ability to travel for meetings and training may be required. 2. Overnight travel may be required. PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must pass a background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records and other records deemed necessary. 2. Must pass a post-offer pre-employment drug screen administered by a City-designated facility. CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT: 1. Candidates must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and insurability in accordance with the City's insurance carrier. 2. Random drug and alcohol testing is a condition of employment and will be tested under the authority of the Department of Transportation.
