Richard B. Aguilar, MD, is the Chief Clinical Officer for Cano Health and maintains his private practice with offices in Downey and Huntington Park, CA. Dr. Aguilar earned his medical degree at the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at UC Irvine Medical Center and Long Beach Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Dr. Aguilar is a member of the American College of Physicians, National Hispanic Medical Association as well as the American Diabetic Association. He has served as Chief of Medicine and Chief of the ICU at several hospitals and from 2006 to 2010 was also Director of Diabetes Care for High Lakes Health Care in Bend, OR. Dr. Aguilar also served as an advisory board member to the American Diabetes Association and the Latino Health Care Provider CE Planning Committee.

As CCO for Cano Health, Dr. Aguilar and his team have grown the practice from one location to 70 centers in Florida, Texas and Nevada. The Miami-based offices have achieved the highest ranking for HEDIS measures for Humana Medicaid in FL along with a 4.7 Star Rating. In 2009, Dr. Aguilar was recognized by the American Diabetes Association/National Committee for Quality Assurance (ADA/NCQA) as a recipient of the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program in the state of Oregon and in 2011, he received the same award for patient care at his California offices. In 2017 and again in 2018, various Miami-based Cano Health offices also received this recognition.

Dr. Aguilar also is co-founder and Medical Director of Diabetes Nation, a primary care founded group which published its Diabetes Intervention and Management with Excellence (DIME) Program® Care Model results.

As CMO for Cano Health, Barbara is responsible for the company’s brand strategy, integrated marketing and communication.

Having been part of one of the first managed care demonstration projects in the U.S., she is considered by many to be a building block of the industry, having created many of the marketing strategies that are widely used today. Her extensive career portfolio also includes in-depth expertise in crisis communication, product development and change management.

Prior to joining Cano Health, she served for nine years as strategic marketing leader for Humana’s multi- billion Florida Medicare business-one that she helped build to the #1 position in the state.

She holds a B.A. in Communication and a dual M.A./M.B.A. with a focus in marketing management from the University of Miami.

An accomplished career veteran in medical operations, clinical innovation and population health management, Dr. John McGoohan recently served as senior advisor to the managed care division of Cano Health, prior to assuming the role of Chief Strategy Officer in June 2019.

At Cano he has been instrumental in transforming population health management programs; acquiring and recruiting new practices; maintaining excellent health plan relationships; and helping the enterprise achieve its maximum financial, utilization and quality outcomes.

Before joining Cano Health, Dr. McGoohan was Medical Director for Strategic Innovation, as well as South Regional Medical Director for Florida Blue. He was responsible for PODS (Place of Delivery program), and oversaw care management, improved utilization and quality performance for high-risk members.

Dr. McGoohan can also boast a very successful tenure with CarePlus Health Plans as Chief Medical Officer and Market Vice President, where he oversaw medical operations in 19 Florida counties with more than 105,000 Medicare Advantage members. Notable achievements included the successful sale of then privately-owned CarePlus to Humana in 2005; and earning the first 5-STAR quality rating for a managed care health plan in Florida in 2015.

As part of his impressive trajectory, he has also held executive leadership positions with Summit Health Plans and Vista Health Plans of Florida prior to their sale to Coventry; ownership, operation and sale of Qualcare Medical MSO to Access Health Care; and key management roles with Humana and Cigna health plans.

He is a graduate of the University of Miami and the Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine where he received his medical degree. Dr. McGoohan is Board Certified in Family Practice.

Jennifer Hevia joined Cano Health in 2017 and serves as Chief People Officer. In her role she is responsible for aligning business strategies with human performance, as she believes that making an investment in people is a direct correlation and differentiator for successful organizations.

As CPO, Jennifer oversees all aspects of the Human Resources Department and leads the organization’s HR strategies, Employee Engagement, Talent & Acquisitions, Performance Management, Training & Development, Compensation/Benefits, HRIS & Payroll and Employment Law/Compliance.

During her tenure at Cano Health, her primary goals and accomplishments have been building the department’s infrastructure, to include key business policies and procedures, recruitment/onboarding, acquisitions, performance management and her most passionate initiative, cultivating the workplace culture with Cano’s Mission, Vision and Culture Values.
