Established March 7, 1891 with its county seat at Caldwell.

1895

1972

The Canyon County Historical Society was established in 1972 as a group of folks coming together to save the Nampa Train Depot from demolition by Union Pacific.

1977

Agriculture is the chief industry of the county made possible by a vast acreage of irrigated land, and it has numerous small manufacturing and processing plants." -- Idaho Almanac, 1977 Edition, State of Idaho.

1988

However, both John Rees and Vardis Fisher believed it was named for the Snake River Canyon, which forms a natural boundary for the county." -- Idaho Place Names, A Geographical Dictionary by Lalia Boone, 1988.

2010

Canyon County is part of the Boise, ID Metropolitan Statistical Area. Based on the 2010 census, the population was 188,923 making it the second-most populous county in Idaho.
