Duke University Health System seeks to hire an experienced or new graduate CTTechnologist who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together. The Duke University Hospital (DUH) campus supports a 1067 bed hospital known for expertise in Inpatient, Urgent Outpatient, OR, Interventional, ED/Trauma, PEDS, Cardiac, Oncology, and Transplant services. We have a total of 20 clinical scanners, including 14 in various locations, 5 in the OR, and 1 portable scanner for Neuro ICU.
What you will do:
Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CTscanners, power injectors, and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures.
Position patients for CTscans using patient positioning devices and protective equipment as necessary.
Perform exams accurately per established protocols, policy, and patient safety standards.
Assist radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
Assist radiologist with interventional CT procedures.
Evaluate CTscans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmit to Image Archival System.
Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions.
Charge procedures and supplies in EHR.
Dispense and or order oral contrast to patients for CTscans.
Maintain accurate patient records.
Provide orientation and training to new CTtechnologists.
Provide care for the psychological and physical needs of patients and their families for CTscans.
Provide education and training to student technologists.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work therein.
Coordinate scheduling and patient flow
Demonstrate proficiency in IV placement for contrast administration.
Demonstrate proficiency and accuracy in performance of all exam protocols.
Assist with the education and training of new physicians (interns, residents, fellows, and attending's). If applicable.
Assist radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols and CT imaging techniques that are unique to facility.
Perform CT specific technical assistance with projects assigned by supervisor including but not limited to: Team lead, R & D, protocol development, charge reconciliation and demonstration of equipment.

Required Qualifications:
Education:
Graduate or completion of program that meets eligibility requirements for registry/certification or currently holds required registry or certification.

A minimum of 4 years' experience within specialty modality in which they are seeking promotion

Duke Life Flight is a CAMTS accredited critical care and Emergency Air and Ground transport agency in Durham, NC, providing services to North Carolina and its surrounding states. We operate two state-of-the-art rotor wing aircraft and a fleet of critical care, and advanced life support ambulances. We are one of few rotor-wing aeromedical Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) capable flight programs in North Carolina. Our respiratory care practitioners with our Life Flight team transport pediatric, and neonatal patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We provide rapid access to health care for patients when time, specialized skills, and/or specialized resources are critical for survival.
General Description of the Job Class
Perform and evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of clinical practice, performing work in accordance with physician orders in the neonatal, pediatric and adult patient populations.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Perform all duties and responsibilities required of a Respiratory Care Practitioner I.
Evaluate appropriateness of medical orders.
Proficient in the application of mechanical ventilator modalities.
Proficient in the application of Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV); Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP)
Perform endotracheal intubation under the observation of a Supervisor or Advanced Practitioner. Perform extubations.
Serve as member of the code/ emergency team. Administer medical gases.
Insert nasogastric and orogastric tubes.
Perform tracheotomy tube changes. Perform capnography monitoring.
Transport patients requiring mechanical ventilation or airway protection.
Interpret clinical data to optimize patient clinical objectives.
Participate in clinical rounds with physicians, nurses and other health care providers
Assist with Bronchoscopy. Assist with orientation and training of Level II RT.
Assure safe operations of devices in the MRI.
Qualified for certification in the hyperbaric chamber if applicable to the institution scope of practice
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education

1. Administers to patients a variety of simple and complex respiratory modalities such as emergency airway procedures, therapeutic gases, medications, etc. as described in the Respiratory Care policy and procedure manual.
2. Consult with medical director, referring physicians and other healthcare professionals to help develop, execute and modify program participants individualized treatment plans.
3. Records response to individualized treatment plans and test results on patient's charts when performed.
4. Cleaning and disinfection of respiratory equipment and accessories.
5. Performs related duties such as assisting physicians with special procedures.
6. Provides direct patient care to all patients adolescent to geriatric, including evaluation and treatment.
7. May perform moderate or waived point of care testing per CLIA guidelines.
8. Helps guide and develop new initiatives, policies, equipment trials or education sessions.
9. Must be ACLS certified and able to respond to code blue.
10. Will precept and orientate new employees and students.
11. Must be able to understand basic exercise principles and physiological responses to exercise in pulmonary patients.
12. Educate other members of the health care team i.e.; Physicians, RN's etc. Conduct in-services as assigned.
13. Participate in appropriate continuing education.
