As of October 23, 2012, it operated 165 branches in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The company was incorporated in 1998 and is based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Capital Bank Corporation operates as a subsidiary of Capital Bank Financial Corp.
