1982

In fact, the company actually released a personal computer in 1982.

By 1982, that figure had fallen to 27% of the $6.7B dedicated to venture capital, which nonetheless still represents an increase in overall corporate dollars.

The entire project was completed in 1987, well ahead of schedule and under budget.

The 1987 stock market crash is widely considered to have brought the second wave of corporate venture capital to an end.

1988

Xerox started Xerox Technology Ventures (“XTV”) in 1988 to exploit and monetize the technology created in PARC and its other research labs, funding it with $30M.

1989

Corporations were forced to write down $9.5B of venture related losses in the second quarter of 2001 alone.

2002

Shell, Mitsubishi, and Johnson Matthey, for example, came together to form a CVC fund investing in fuel cell technologies as late as 2002.
