Pay Range: $37.87 - $55.96 Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36 Position Overview * Establishes and manages basic and complex forms of mechanical ventilation (e.g., HFO, NPPV, PRVC, transport) with high proficiency and minimal supervision. * Performs weaning mechanics as ordered with high proficiency in greater than 90% of the ventilator patients. Develops or refines the ventilator care plan on a daily basis and communicates to appropriate members of the patient care team. * Collects specimens, performs basic and more complex diagnostic testing (e.g. blood gas, specimens, and sputums), and validates the quality of the results with high proficiency and minimal supervision. * Interprets diagnostic and monitoring data with high precision. Integrates routinely patient diagnostic data, response-to-therapy, and physiologic profile to create a plan-of-care that is sound and consistent with the department standard-of-care. * Uses effective time management in work organization and triaging. Handles consistently shift assignment without complaints or interventions. Performs consistently thorough, advanced cardiopulmonary clinical assessments, with appropriate inclusion of other systems (e.g., cardiovascular, nutritional, neurologic). * Administers basic and advanced respiratory therapeutic interventions (e.g., heliox, nitric oxide, CNB Chest Wall Oscillation) with high proficiency and virtually no supervision. * Responds immediately to all Code Blue, RRT, Trauma and STATS at least 90% of the time. * Provides educational training to patient and/or family members as appropriate. * Communicates consistently with healthcare members on patient's care plan, in a manner consistent with organization standards. * Seeks actively ways to assist other members of the healthcare team and is recognized by peers and supervisory staff as collaborative and helpful. Receives at least one validated commendation from co-worker, physician, nurse, and supervisor during the evaluation year. Takes a role in training, education, orientation and student clinical time. * Applies departmental protocols and clinical practice guidelines with high precision and compliance when indicated, without supervision. Applies routinely new techniques and procedures with high proficiency within 30 days of training/orientation. * Understands the value, tools and performance indicators used in QI. Participates actively QI within department. * Documents accurately data for quality improvement processes with the department (i.e., Mar, Assessment, Reassessment and Care Plan). MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS * Education: Associate's Degree from an AMA Accredited Respiratory Therapy/Respiratory Therapist Program. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment, such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients. 6. Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes. 7. Performs chest physiotherapy on patient to remove mucus from their lungs and make it easier for them to breathe and assists patient in performing breathing exercises. 8. The patient care process includes: * Maintains the functional accuracy of all laboratory instrumentation by performing routine maintenance and quality control procedures as required by the equipment manufacturer, regulatory agencies and the ATS / ERS recommendations. * Performs routine pulmonary and diagnostic procedures and assists the physician with special studies requiring a high degree of technical sophistication. * Ensures that all procedures are performed safely, consistently and accurately in accordance with laboratory policy & procedure. * Performs data collection, analysis, computation, and report generation for all tests performed. * Acts as a technical resource and support person for the pulmonary physicians and other ordering physicians. * Provides patient/family individual pulmonary education and counseling, including home exercise and smoking cessation counseling if needed. * Initiates emergency procedures (including cardiopulmonary resuscitation) according to policy both in the Pulmonary Diagnostics area as well as in surrounding areas as needed. * Maintains electronic medical records for scheduling, linking orders, check in/out, billing, and data quality assurance. * Perform 6MWT / Field testing and oximetry testing, and exhaled breath testing (FENO, BH2) * Participates in the training of students and orientation of new employees as needed. * Assists in maintaining an adequate supply inventory, performance of emergency equipment daily/weekly/monthly as needed. * Participates in patient and family education. * Demonstrates an understanding of appropriate safety and infection control techniques. * Performs continuing education to ensure professional knowledge remains current and to stimulate professional growth. This position additionally will perform all necessary quality control and maintain supplies and inventory for the pulmonary lab as needed. The Respiratory Therapist utilizes the care process consistent with their license and certification including initiation of interventions within individual scope of practice.
