After graduation, he started a new firm, Symon, Tully & Booth, which evolved into the partnership of Crossland Realty with Jack Buford in 1971.
Capital Regional Medical Center's history starts in 1974 when Tallahassee native Jim Tully envisioned a new hospital on an undeveloped area 'way out' on Capital Circle.
In 1977 he began a different kind of battle.
In 1978, an acute care regional hospital, Laurel Regional Hospital, opened.
CMC began serving patients in the fall of 1979.
In addition, Memorial started the first cardiac rehabilitation program in mid-Missouri in 1979 and was the first hospital in Jefferson City to offer in-house computed tomography (CT) scanning services.
Then in 1979, the state’s first freestanding emergency medical facility opened (affiliated with Prince George’s General Hospital).
In 1982, the Prince George’s County Council voted to discontinue the county’s hospital commission and established a private, not-for-profit corporation to lease and manage the county’s public hospitals.
In 1985 it was granted another Certificate of Need, this time to expand and renovate the hospital.
The new private corporation was named Community Hospital and Health Care Systems, which, in 1986, changed its name to Dimensions Health Corporation.
The $11 million project was completed and approved by the state in 1988.
And in 1989 TCH launched its open-heart surgery program - a significant expansion of life-saving heart care in the community.
Kempker has been with the Foundation since its office opened in February of 1990.
By 1990, the name had changed to Still Regional Medical Center and the facility had grown to a 142-bed hospital with six satellite clinics, an osteopathic teaching program and more than 700 employees.
After serving the mid-Missouri region as competing not-for-profit healthcare facilities, Memorial Community Hospital and Still Regional Medical Center merged to become Capital Region Medical Center in 1994.
21, 1997, Capital Region formed an affiliation with the University of Missouri Health System.
By the year 2000, the hospital had opened a new Progressive Care Unit and an 18-bed orthopedic/neurology unit.
With all of the growth in medical services, TCH announced it would build a new $100 million replacement hospital to be completed by 2003.
