A Day in the Life:
Pre-Flight Preparation
Your day begins one hour prior to departure, giving you ample time to:
Review key flight details in Traxxall, including maintenance status, NOTAMs, fuel loads, weather conditions, and routing.
Collaborate with the Captain to discuss departure and arrival strategies, including diversion planning if needed.
Perform all required pre-flight checks, safety procedures, and flows to ensure the aircraft is clear.
In-Flight Operations
Operating the aircraft in full compliance with FAA regulations, JSX SOPs, and industry safety standards.
Maintain real-time communication with Mission Control (Dispatch), Ground Operations, ATC, and your Flight Attendant.
Serve as the secondary voice to the Captain in decision-making, ready to act quickly and confidently in dynamic conditions.
Post-Flight Duties
Assist with quick turn tasks, including light cabin tidying: clean tray tables, cross seatbelts, collect trash, and support the Flight Attendant as needed to ensure an on-time departure.
Log any maintenance in Traxxall and communicate critical updates to Mission Control
Additional responsibilities include:
Participating in recurrent training and performance evaluations to maintain proficiency and grow in your career.
Step in to assist with baggage handling or other duties at smaller airports where ground support is limited.

Your New Role
The pilot in command reports to the Chief Pilot regarding company operating policies and procedures. The pilot in command is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of the flight assignment with the emphasis on safety, security, and quality. Will exercise pilot in command authority of all flights to which they are assigned and are the final authority for the safe conduct of the flight.
Your Role Accountabilities
Safely operate the aircraft, determine departure times and routes, and/or cancel flights based on weather or other conditions
Ensure that the flight is conducted in complete compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations and policies and procedures
Institute all necessary changes as required by enroute conditions such that the flight may continue under appropriate company policies, procedures and rules
Responsible for conducting the flight in a safe and prudent manner in accordance with industry and company standards
Accurate completion of all trip paperwork in accordance with current procedures
Responsible for ensuring a thorough and complete understanding with the second in command regarding all aspects of flight
Record all aircraft discrepancies as they occur on the aircraft discrepancy log and immediately report these discrepancies to their Maintenance Manager or their designee as soon as possible. Refer to the approved MEL and as directed by the Maintenance Manager if the inoperative item can be deferred or needs to be repaired and completes the aircraft discrepancy log as required
Determine that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and that they are mentally and physically fit for duty
Maintain a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems which they are authorized to operate to include all emergency systems and procedures associated with the aircraft
Secure the aircraft after each flight to include arranging hangar storage if they deem necessary or they are instructed to do so by the company management
Obtain the most current weather reports, forecasts and NOTAMS from a FAA flight service station or other authorized agency
File or cause a flight plan to be filed with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility
Analyze area, enroute and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and alternates
Perform the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator {ISC) under the provision of the twelve five standard security program
Conduct the required passenger safety briefings or assign that duty in accordance with the FAR's
Impart knowledge and skills to the second in command to prepare them to assume the duties of Pilot in Command in an emergency or when the second in command upgrades to pilot in command in that aircraft
Responsible for taking an active role supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and reporting all safety hazards and concerns in our SMS program
Responsible for making an immediate report in any hazardous action, conduct or event to the Chief Pilot and head of safety
The pilot in command may delegate these duties but not the responsibility for those duties

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by attached resume): Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) OR four (4) years of directly related full-time experience, or a combination of higher education and experience totaling four (4) full-time years may be considered. Five (5) years at-sea shipboard experience in coastal waters to include at least two (2) years serving in the capacity as vessel master or captain in open waters. Have familiarity with loading, deploying and recovering equipment off vessels and be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Possessing and maintaining a US Coast Guard Master- Near Coastal license, 100 tons or more, licensed to carry passengers is essential for this position to meet US Coast Guard requirements and State liability concerns. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. The Captain is assisted by full-time technicians, and additional crew members as needed (as filled by other staff positions, temporary deckhands, or hired students). The role primarily involves operating the R/V Seawolf, though occasional assistance with smaller SoMAS vessels may be required. The Captain ensures the vessel's safe operation, maintenance, and effective support of SoMAS research and educational activities, which often include multiple trawling cruises. The successful incumbent must have the ability to undertake fieldwork in varying conditions and must be able to handle sampling gear for fieldwork.
Key Responsibilities:
* Captain:
* Serve as Captain, ensuring the safety of the vessel, crew, and passengers. Ensure compliance with all US Coast Guard and regulatory requirements. Maintain all required logs and submit daily reports. Conduct bottom trawling/research respectfully.
* Operations:
