Captains at BD are responsible for the safe conduct of flights to which they are assigned. Captains report directly to the Chief Pilot. The Captain holds ultimate responsibility for the safe operation of the aircraft. Captains must adhere to all federal, state, local, and international regulations, along with the policies and procedures outlined in the company operations manual. Captains serve as the company's primary representative to the passengers and must conduct themselves with tact and decorum while maintaining an efficient and safe operation. **Job Responsibilities** The duties of a Captain include: + Acting as pilot in command (PIC) of flights for which the pilot has been scheduled + Providing excellent customer service to passengers + Following schedules and other directives governing the aircraft's operation + Ensuring that preflight inspections are performed + Studying weather conditions at destination, enroute, alternate airports, and departure points + Preparing flight plans + Ensuring that the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight with all provisions on board for the safety and comfort of the passengers + Reviewing and calculating the aircraft weight and balance, fuel on board, and performance charts + Managing the SIC (second in command) in all responsibilities needed to ensure the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of the aircraft + Coordinating the functioning of all crewmembers assigned to the flight + Managing and communicating with crew, and other team members, while maintaining the highest levels of integrity and CRM, in alignment with the BD Way + Ensuring that aircraft operations are in accordance with BD Aviation Flight Operations Manual and Standard Operating Procedures, including strict adherence to checklists by all crew members + Participating in the Safety Management System by crafting a flight risk analysis for all flight segments.
