Overview of the Position
Boat Captains with a Master License will be driving vessels around the harbor for a variety of classes throughout the year with children, parents, and Staff aboard. Pontoon boat can hold 20 people max per COI and sport fisher can hold 6 passengers. Event outings vary from 1-4 hours in length. Other trips are quicker class deliveries/drop offs with children going to and from the Newport Sea Base and local venues such as the Back Bay Science Center, Balboa Fun Zone, Marina Park, the Wedge, and local beaches. You must be at least 21 years old, be certified in CPR and First Aid, and attain your CA Boater's Card upon being hired. Must also be able to pass random drug screens throughout tenure via the Maritime Consortium. Needs to be enthusiastic, patient, creative, and have a comfort and inclination working with children. All boat captains must be able to swim. Must be comfortable communicating with young children, teens, and parents. Directly reports to the Program Director.
*Upon hire, must provide copy of USCG Master License and supporting documents/certifications.
Responsibilities/Duties
Prepare and pre-trip all boats pre and post event
Refill gas tanks when low; learn how to utilize local dock gas stations via NSB account
Assist in supervising children aboard ensuring safety at all times
Outlines rules and procedures before embarking on outings and enforcing rules throughout the duration of each event
Track attendance on each boat's log especially the pontoon boat
Ensure boat is cleaned, reorganized, and kept tidy after each outing
Report program/equipment concerns to supervisor immediately.
Teach youth water, boating and paddle craft safety.
Be a positive role model and mentor to youth participants.
Enforce appropriate student-discipline procedures.
Communicate thoroughly and effectively with other program staff and Lead Instructors.
Work together with lead teaching instructors aboard and prepare route in conjunction with the activity plan for the event
Participate in scheduled staff trainings throughout the year
Be comfortable learning how to operate a Boston Whaler, pontoon boat, sport fisher
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

About the Role
The primary responsibility and authority for the execution of all vessel assignments including, but not limited to, planning the most efficient and safe operation of the vessel and its crew, implementing the operating plan in a cost-effective manner, and evaluating and reporting the results. It is the responsibility of all Masters to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, requirements and documentation in the Foss Safety Management System Manual (SMS). Masters have the specific obligation to ensure that all personnel assigned to vessels are provided with information, instructions and directions necessary for meeting the program objectives of safety, environmental protection and quality service through knowledgeable and competent execution of assigned tasks.
What You'll Do
Ensures safe navigation of the vessel at all times.
Conducts required drills, training, safety meetings and maintains records of such, per company policy.
Conducts and ensures compliance with vessel maintenance and inspection requirements as prescribed by the company.
Inspects vessel to ensure conformance with safety standards and maritime regulations.
Work closely with customers, pilots and appropriate government agencies to ensure the proper performance of the job.
Ensures prompt and accurate reporting of all equipment failures, illnesses, incidents, accidents and damages.
Maintains current knowledge of all maritime laws.
Directs and supervises crew members in safe and productive operation of the vessel, its machinery and equipment.
Holds crew accountable for their adherence to maritime law, company policies and procedures, and their individual performance/productivity.
Evaluate all crewmembers in accordance with Company policy and take action as necessary.
What We're Looking For
Thorough knowledge of vessel handling and navigational skills commensurate with operating assignments.
Working knowledge of propulsion, auxiliary and deck machinery.
Must possess strong written and oral communicative skills.
Must be able to economically supervise all aspects of the operation of the vessel, its cargo and crew.
Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision.
Ability to withstand exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, heat, wind, heavy seas, etc.)
Ability to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours
Able to work weekends, holidays, and at night. Willing to take call outs.
Must possess and maintain a National Master 500/1600 OC or NC license, National Master of Towing, STCW, Radar Endorsement, MMC, and TWIC.
5 years experience as a Master or Operating Mate on towing vessels.
Must be trained on conventional tug vessels.
Z drive tug experience preferred.
What We Offer
The hourly rate for this position is $20.64. For a full-time Captain, this equates to an estimated annual salary of approximately $148,112.64, depending on total hours worked throughout the year. Captains are paid on a 24-hour scale with varying hours of ST, OT, and DT rate.

Currently, we are seeking a Job Captain who can help contribute to the creative work coming from Studio AR&D Architects. A Job Captain will have a thorough understanding of construction documents in addition to retaining and understanding of all of the parties involved and the delivery of the work that they are responsible for.
A Job Captain will have the responsibility of overseeing the actual creation of the drawings and construction documents of the project. A Job Captain shall have the technical and leadership abilities to plan, organize, and manage efforts of a production team to produce high quality construction documents within an allotted time and budget. The selected candidate shall benefit from a dynamic work environment and challenging project tasks and responsibilities.

Job Captain will have a thorough understanding of all construction documents in addition to procuring, retaining, and understanding of all parties involved and the delivery of the work that they (Architect, Owner, consultants, contractor) are responsible for
Job Captain will have the responsibility of both creating (themselves) as well as overseeing of others (team members) the actual creation of the drawings and construction documents of the project
Job Captain shall have the technical and leadership abilities to plan, organize, and manage efforts of a production team to produce high quality construction documents within an allotted time and budget, guiding the production team through the project timeline and consistently delivering and meeting deadlines.
Responsibilities
Take direction from, and provide support and assistance to Project Managers and Managing Principal on various high-end residential projects
Produce, manage, and coordinate construction documentation sets
Complete technical CAD drawings and tasks as directed in a clear and organized manner consistent with office standards
Report regularly to the Project Manager and Firm Principal
Track and follow up on communication with team members, consultants, and local municipality staff, as required
Coordinate architectural design and building systems with engineering consultants
Produce and develop technical drawings and details
with Project Manager assistance at times
Create and organize construction details in a proficient manner, checking your own work (and subordinates work) against code, acceptable means and methods, office standards
Organize drawing sets and oversee completing submittals to various municipalities
Perform filing, code, and zoning analyses for multiple municipalities and related zoning ordinances
Survey and document existing conditions in the field
Research construction materials and systems
General office and project duties as required to the firm and position
Track all consultant proposal, costs, and payment requests and "approve" or "reject" consultant invoices or requests for payment
Requirements
Bachelor's or Masters Degree in Architecture
Minimum 3-5 years of post-bachelor's degree Architecture firm experience, preferably in high-end residential design
Strong organizational skills as it relates to:
themselves and their own work tasks
the communication with other disciplines, team members, and the ability to create and access information with construction documents
including practicing good judgement on time management skills for same
Detail oriented
Experience in design and detailing projects through construction documentation and construction administration
Ability to consistently meet deadlines and deliver
Self-motivated, self-starter, always striving to grow in their profession in both learning and taking on more responsibility
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interest in highly detailed, modern & contemporary architecture
Must be proficient in AutoCAD
Strong knowledge of Sketchup, Lumion and other related software.
Strong knowledge of Bluebeam, including tools and shortcuts required for note taking, detailing, and drawing during Owner and Contractor meetings.

Overall Responsibilities:
Under general direction, responsible for managing the work of junior staff and consultants to develop and produce a comprehensive project deliverable for medium projects or components of larger projects.
Responsibilities:

Requirements
Minimum five years of progressive experience in technical and design production.
Ability to demonstrate full knowledge of industry practices and a proven track record of quality control on progressively more complex and diverse assignments.
Experience in construction document preparation and field observation, knowledge of building materials, specifications and construction techniques.
Must have thorough understanding of construction administration requirements.
Experience in dealing with governmental agencies and building/zoning codes and appropriate knowledge of engineering disciplines to evaluate and coordinate work done by consultants.
Solid judgment, based on precedent and policy, in the development of a recommended course of action.
Excellent verbal and written communication as well as time management skills.
Excellent client management and customer service orientation and presentation skills.
Understanding of sustainable practices and industry standards.
Proficiency in relevant computer software:
Building Information Modeling: Revit 2016 or later
Rendering: 3D Studio Max, Maxwell Render, Twinmotion, or Enscape
Modeling: SketchUp or Rhino
AutoCAD 2016 or later
Microsoft Office
A degree in Architecture, preferable at the graduate level, related field or equivalent experience required. LEED AP preferred.
Current affiliation and/or membership in a local, state, or national industry organization(s) is a plus.
