Our Network Operations team works around the clock running United's global operation, safely, reliably and efficiently. From dispatching and routing our fleet to coordinating with maintenance line planning and crew scheduling, this team makes caring connections with our internal customers and ultimately, United's customers. From pushback to landing, the Network Operations team is the eyes and ears on the ground no matter where in the world your United flight takes you.

Job overview and responsibilities:
The Dispatcher is responsible for joint operational control with the Pilot in Command to ensure the safe, legal, and efficient operation of United Airlines flights in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations and Company Manuals. The successful candidate possesses strong organizational skills and is detail oriented. Additionally, strong written and verbal communication skills accompanied by a high work ethic are a must.
* Prepares the flight release
* Monitors flight progress
* Analyzes and disseminates meteorological information, reviews maintenance limitations and calculates the amount of fuel required for safe flight
* Updates the pilot in command of significant changes to the flight plan and provides assistance during irregular and emergency situations
* Maintains qualification and competency in accordance with FAA and UAL requirements
* Interacts with other United Airlines' departments including Maintenance Control, Operations Planning and Meteorology
Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
* High school diploma, GED or education equivalent
* FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate
* 1 year of Airline Operations experience
* Must be able to work any shift/any day including holidays
* Must pass DOT background and DOT drug screen
* Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
* Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
* Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Job Summary
Performs duties associated with direct management and supervision of daily actions within the Strategic Operations Center. The Captain of the Strategic Operations Center is responsible for ensuring that all Strategic Operations Center policies and procedures are consistently followed. Assists the Commander of the Strategic Operations Center in implementing the units plans consistent with UCPD vision and plan. Performs oversight of sections within the Strategic Operations Center. Responsible for assisting the Commander of the Strategic Operations Center with developing strategies to prevent crime, communicate public safety issues to appropriate resources, and maximize technology.
The Unit is a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation. Captains are assigned to a shift and will require flexibility for awareness and efficiency to ensure public safety for the campus and designated boundaries within the surrounding community. Responsibilities
Provides direct management of activities associated with the emergency communications/dispatch section. Helps identify and deploy best practices for campus and medical center law enforcement. Assists the Commander of the Strategic Operations Center in creating and implementing effective crime prevention, suppression and investigative methods in partnership with the Field Services unit. Management includes activities within the UCPD jurisdiction including campus properties, non-campus properties and the University of Chicago Medicine facilities.
Contributes to establishing goals, objectives, and initiatives and provides assessment data to other members of the Command Staff based on an established measurement system.
Directs and approves performance evaluations for others in the unit. Meets regularly with the Commander of the Strategic Operations Center as well as other team leaders to promote team building, resolve issues, and exchange ideas for improvement. Contributes to setting goals and follows through with team leaders to ensure direction is appropriate to achieve desired results. Directs and initiates performance improvement plans and corrective action as needed.
Provides leadership to critical public safety events and contributes to planning for, managing emergencies, threats, events, and other situations which compromise peace and order within the UCPD jurisdiction.
Complies with the on-call system within the Center command staff and serves as the next level point of contact on a 24/7 basis.
Assists in formulating and implementing policies and procedures in compliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) standards.
Possesses excellent written and oral communications skills to successfully develop and implement policies and procedures; directs and initiates performance improvement if necessary.

Willingly participates and provides input during management meetings to keep Command Staff leaderships informed of problems and concerns.
Maintains positive liaisons with all other University of Chicago departments, administrators, student groups, external community stakeholders and other law enforcement agencies. Position requires daily contact with members of the University and UC Medicine community to include students, parents, staff, faculty, physicians and visitors.
In the absence of the Deputy Chief of Support Services and the Commander of the Strategic Operations Center, the Captain of the Strategic Operations Center will serve as formal and informal liaison to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to exchange information, provides assistance, or request assistance as necessary. This includes fusion centers.
