An inpatient health center in New Mexico’s Greater Las Cruces Area is looking to add a Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery PA to their team. Las Cruces is New Mexico’s second largest city and receives almost 300 days of sunshine a year. The area hosts multiple events, from wine festivals to a Day of the Dead celebration. The city is also less than an hour from White Sands National Park, a world-famous natural site with striking white sand dunes.

Position description
Become an Associate Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the #1 hospital in Florida (U.S. News & World Report). Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, is seeking a full-time associate cardiothoracic surgeon who is proficient cardiac surgery, including Heart and Lung Transplant and Devices, and procurement of heart or lungs.

Requirements include:

• Eligible for Florida state license
• Comfortable traveling to procure organs via airplane or ground transportation
• Excellent clinical skills with strong interest and ability in education and research
• A demonstrated academic background and interest in academic productivity.
• Good collaboration and communication skills across specialties, disciplines, and with all levels of staff

License or certification
Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Florida. Do not need to be board-certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

In this role, you will assist in recovery of donor organs for transplantation. You will ensure all necessary supplies are assembled for the recovery of hearts and lungs for transplantation. Under the direct supervision of the procuring surgeon, the Organ Preservationist will assist in the perfusion of donor organs in preparation for transplantation.

In this role you will be responsible for:

+ Ensuring all necessary documentation is completed according to UNOS and UCLA policy.

+ Collect and properly label blood and tissue specimens for submission to the UCLA Laboratory.

+ Assist in the coordination of the procurement with the recipient surgery by maintaining consistent communication with the

+ UCLA Transplant Coordinator and the transplant recipient's medical team.

+ Administrative duties include electronic data input, maintenance of supply inventories, development and institution of protocols in accordance with UCLA Transplant Services and UNOS, and training of new hires.

*1 Year contract may convert to career, also eligible for renewal on an annual basis."

Qualifications

Required:

+ Working knowledge of the use, function, and operation of operating room equipment

+ Working knowledge of aseptic technique

+ Working knowledge of anatomy and the correct terminology

+ Ability to provide information, explain policies and procedures to team members

+ Ability to speak, write and read English

+ Ability to work independently and follow through on all assignments

+ Ability to move objects, such as heavy carts and handle surgical equipment safely

+ Ability to work on call whenever assigned

+ BLS certification required

+ Bachelor's degree, preferably in the life sciences (in progress acceptable)

Preferred:

+ Knowledge of UNOS policy as related to organ procurement

+ Prior clinical experience
