Cardiovascular Consultants PC company history timeline

1800

Ever since Sir John Player, physicians had been interested in pulse tracings but it was not until the middle of the 1800's that an instrument was available to make clinical tracings of the pulse at the wrist.

1830

In the 1830's, an Irish physician, Dominic John Corrigan, described aortic insufficiency diagnosed by a sharply declining "water hammer" pulse.

1857

1880

There were other specialists in cardiology in Europe, going back into the end of the 1880's.

1885

A pulse controller made by Castagna in 1885 is illustrated in Fig.

1900

There is at least one other landmark that equals in importance for our specialty the work of Harvey, and that is the contribution of William Einthoven2, several centuries later, actually the early 1900's.

1934

Eight years later, in 1934, with the help and counsel of Russel Burton Opitz, a practicing cardiologist and professor of physiology at a medical school, Bishop was able to convene a group and organize the New York Cardiological Society.

1935

One day in 1935, a man was ushered into my office; he said his name was Groedel.

1941

At the end of 1941, the elder Bishop died.

1946

CVA was founded in 1946 by Doctor John B. Burrett of Birmingham.

1949

The American College of Cardiology achieved its legal start with the granting of its charter on December 2, 1949.

In 1949, Groedel became President with Louis Bishop, Jr., as Vice President and, of course, Reichert in the same old job.

1952

By the time the first general meeting was held in June 1952, the program attracted a medical audience of almost 500 physicians, from almost every state in the union, from Canada and from as far away as Hawaii.

1978

The solidity of cardiology as a recognized specialty is by 1978 well established all over the world, and to a large extent due to the dream of Louis Bishop, Sr., and of Franz Groedel.

1979

By 1979, he had established Prairie, with the goal to deliver state-of-the-art critical medical care to people outside metropolitan areas, according to Doctor Marc Shelton, President, Prairie Cardiovascular, who was recruited by Dove 18 years ago to become Prairie’s 12th physician.

1985

Doctor Gerry M. Phillips, in 1985, recognized the necessity for a cardiovascular practice that could serve as a complete source for patients with a variety of cardiac and vascular conditions.

1993

Cardiac Rehab opened in 1993.

Doctor James Karas joined the practice in 1993 bringing with him additional clinical support as well as Transesophageal Echocardiography.

2000

In the early 2000’s, with continued growth of the practice and an endowment from Rolf and Alexandra Kauka, the idea of a Cardiovascular Center began to take shape.

2005

Doctor Robert Miles joined the practice in 2005.

2006

Doctor Rick Kerensky came in 2006 and started the cardiac interventional program.

Our cardiovascular services were consolidated in the new East Tower of Archbold Memorial Hospital which opened in 2006.

2019

A research limb was added to the growing practice in 2019 which includes the development and application of new drugs and techniques.

2021

Cardiovascular Consultants celebrates welcomes our most recent addition in 2021, Doctor Pallavi Luthra who serves our Moultrie campus.
