Ultragenyx is seeking a strategic and visionary physician leader to join the Global Medical Affairs team focused on LC-FAOD and triheptanoin.

Responsibilities:
Lead the Global Medical Sub Team (GMST), ensuring regional medical affairs are involved in and inform the development of global medical strategy
Develop and drive the timely execution of the Global Medical Plan for LC-FAOD and triheptanoin in the pre-launch, launch, and post-launch phases
Serve as the strategic medical leader on the Program Core Team and key sub-teams, shaping development, commercialization, and lifecycle strategies through deep scientific and clinical expertise. Work decisively to overcome challenges and drive program priorities forward
Lead advisory boards, steering committees, and investigator meetings to gather key insights that inform program strategy and activities
Lead updates to the Integrated Evidence Generation Plan (IEP), ensuring alignment with HEOR and clinical development to address global/regional evidence gaps
Lead and successfully complete global medical affairs data generation activities, including real-world evidence (RWE), investigator-sponsored trials (ISTs), and other strategic evidence initiatives
Accountable as the medical affairs lead for Disease Monitoring Programs for LC-FAOD, providing strategic medical leadership on all aspects of the study and accountable for leading data generation and publication activities aligned to the IEP
Provide deep disease area and product expertise, ensuring accurate and consistent communication of clinical and scientific data
Lead global publication strategy and congress planning activities, ensuring timely, high-impact dissemination of data and other education initiatives
Lead training and provide strategic guidance and tools toregional medical affairs teams to ensure launch readiness and consistent scientific exchange

Requirements:
Medical Doctor (MD, PhD strongly preferred) with Board Certification in Clinical/Biochemical Genetics

Duties:
Recognizes the difference between potential pathogens and normal flora for all specimen types. This includes recognizing the difference in media, atmosphere, and temperature requirements for each specimen type.
Conducts quality control measures on all laboratory tests. Follows protocol for running controls and accepting/verifying results according to established procedures. Evaluates controls and recognizes discrepant control results and advises Supervisor as needed. Records and files all data obtained. Completes scheduled instrument calibration and maintenance according to established protocol.
Following established laboratory protocol, independently performs a variety of laboratory procedures, both manual and automated (see training checklists and direct observation checklists for detailed description of procedures). Demonstrates a level of understanding of the technical and procedural aspects of laboratory testing. Organizes workload maximizing efficiency in processing tests.
Analyzes and interprets results obtained within the confines of current standards of laboratory accuracy, precision and acceptability. Enters test results into patient's file upon completion. Utilizes knowledge to correlate data and reviews data for unusual or unreasonable results according to established laboratory procedures. Brings unusual abnormal results to the attention of departmental supervisor if needed.
Performs antimicrobial sensitivity testing when applicable and interpret results.
In the absence or during particularly busy time periods, helps out in a laboratory aide capacity via independently obtains, receives and prepares microbiology specimens for planting, plants them and reviews specimen acceptability.
As requested by department supervisor, may assist in training department personnel.
As assigned by department supervisor, may participate in special projects and studies within the department. Analyzes and tests new or improved products and procedures. Makes recommendations to department on status of new test procedures and/or products.
As requested, orders and obtains supplies necessary to fulfill job assignment.
Adheres to company and departmental safety procedures.
In supervisor's absence, may be required to explain test results or methodologies to physicians or nursing home staff to insure proper evaluation of patient status.
