DentalHygienist REPORTS TO: Dental Officer CLASSIFICATION: Exempt CareSTL Health is seeking a DentalHygienist to join our team! The DentalHygienist is committed to serving through strong team leadership the improvement of the oral health and habits of our community. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following information is considered the definition of essential functions but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. The DentalHygienist may be reassigned duties and responsibilities at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other staffing reasons.
Assess patient's present oral condition, provide oral cancer screen and periodontal assessment.
Scale and polish teeth. Provide periodontal evaluation and deep cleaning if required.
Provide caries risk assessment and determine patient's health risk behaviors including tobacco usage and alcohol consumption.
Provide detailed oral health care instructions to include appropriate age education and behavior counseling.
Conduct dental health promotional programs, and disease screenings, distribute appropriate health promotion literature
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Must have either a certificate or Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited school of Dental Hygiene
Must have a current license issued by the State of Missouri
Experience:
1-4 yrs experience in a professional environment with direct patient contact required
Additional Information:
Clinic hours are Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
11 paid holidays per year.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential Functions:
Provide primary pediatric care for patients 13 years + in a trauma-informed manner and with an equity lens as outlined by education, scope, and privileging of Affinia Healthcare.
Make appropriate referrals.
Minor procedures within scope for the foot, ankle, and lower extremity (not including the operating room).
Provide life support and emergency evaluation/care in response to life threatening situations in the absence of the physician and/or other appropriate health professional.
Compile complete and interval health histories on patients within their scope.
Perform complete physical assessment as well as physicals directed towards episodic or interval concerns for patients within their scope.
Select, perform and/or interpret the appropriate routine laboratory and diagnostic tests within scope.
Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health related to scope.
Make diagnosis and treatment decisions including medication prescribing within scope of practice.
Maintain appropriate records; utilizes the tracking system to follow up on patients.
Contribute ideas for improvement for Affinia Healthcare.
Participate in record review, peer review, and quality improvement programs.
Participate in staff meetings, department meetings, and staff committees.
Maintain productivity and quality standards established by federal guidelines and Affinia Healthcare.
Follow Affinia Healthcare Clinician Best Practices and policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions:
Attends Providers, staff, and agency meetings as necessary.
Represents Affinia Healthcare within the service neighborhood and the larger community.
Attends CME sessions as required.
Completes Peer Review and Relias education sessions as required.

Assists in the preparation of patient care areas.
Knowledge of Federal, State, and institutional regulations and guidelines for the provision of dental outpatient services.
Ability to independently assess the nature and extent of dental, periodontic, and associated conditions and pathology in dental outpatients.
Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
Ability to perform a full range of established dentalhygienist protocols and procedures.
Ability to analyze medical records and prescribed protocol to formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans.
Knowledge and understanding of dental surgery and associated procedures, terminology, and techniques.

Performs dental prophylaxis through cleaning, scaling and polishing of teeth and restorations.

Applies topical fluoride and any prescribed topical medicament, antiseptic sprays and rinses.
Assists other staff members in assuring that treatment areas are kept clean and sanitized.
Determines appropriate time interval between cleanings based on evaluation of each patient and assists with future scheduling of patients.
Applies pit and fissure sealants to sound teeth as treatment planned by Dentist.
Maintains the physical condition of the clinical area and dental equipment and instruments used.
Maintains Universal Precautions.
Performs initial examination of teeth and tissue for carious lesions, periodontal pockets and other abnormal conditions. Informs Dentist of any problems.
Assists dental providers in treatments, diagnostic exams etc. as needed.
Coordinates patient recall system.
