Perform the duties required to provide support for providers in all aspects of patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse within a defined scope of care. Education: Graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant Program. Experience: Minimum of three (3) months' experience as a Medical Assistant. Skills and Abilities: (which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position): Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA policies and procedures. FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB Essential Functions Performs patient intake (i.e., blood pressures, temperatures, pulse, respirations, weights and measurements) on patients for medical examination. Perform tests (i.e., pulse oximetry, vision tests, hearing screens and EKGs). Gives medications/immunizations as ordered per route (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and subdermal). Notifies Clinic Nurse Coordinator and Provider of abnormal vital signs, blood glucose, or EKG results. Prepares, maintains exam rooms assuring that they are cleaned and stocked; performs sterilization of instruments. Assists urgent care patients by monitoring vital signs and assisting with transportation to another department or facility. Responsible for general office procedures (i.e. nebulizer treatments). Perform other duties as assigned. Marginal Functions: * Assist with primary care appointments. * Assist with orientation and training of new Nurses, Medical Assistants, students, and volunteers. Physician coverage is from Washington University. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose This position provides support to the clinical care team under the direction of the nursing staff. Duties include support of the outpatient visit through selected tasks according to practice protocols and procedures.
