Caribbean University PR history

United States rela­tions with the island are gov­erned by the 1979 Taiwan Rela­tions Act, which out­lines the United States com­mit­ment to help Taiwan main­tain its mil­it­ary defense.

In 1990, after starting to offer graduate studies, it was renamed to Caribbean University.

1991: Hi­ram S Wal­ters Re­source Cen­tre was of­fi­cially opened to re­place the old West Indies Col­lege li­brary.

1998: The As­ton and Novelette Tai Busi­ness Skills Cen­tre was of­fi­cially opened.

1999: WIC re­ceived the Char­ter for univer­sity sta­tus from the Govern­ment of Ja­maica and was re­named Northern Caribbean Univer­sity (NCU).

2000: The univer­sity in­au­gu­rated its first doc­toral pro­gramme (the PhD in ed­u­ca­tion) through the Col­lege of Grad­u­ate Ed­u­ca­tion and Lead­er­ship.

2002: The mul­ti­pur­pose Univer­sity Gym­na­to­rium, was of­fi­cially opened.

2003: The Ellen G. White Sev­enth-Day Re­search Cen­tre was opened.

2008: The Hy­acinth Chen School of Nurs­ing was of­fi­cially opened, funded largely by Michael Lee-Chin, Ja­maican busi­ness­man and phi­lan­thropist.

• The Mi­crosoft Imag­ine Cup on be­half of Ja­maica in 2010.

2013: The Agri-Re­search Lab­o­ra­to­ries were of­fi­cially opened.

2015: NCU team Jar­gro earned first place in the 2015 stag­ing of the DBJ spon­sored Na­tional Busi­ness Model Com­pe­ti­tion

In 2016, the university expanded its STEM academic programs.

2017: NCU team Nat­sima con­tin­ued the NCU tra­di­tion, plac­ing first in the Na­tional Busi­ness Model Com­pe­ti­tion.

2019: NCU placed first and sec­ond in the Na­tional Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy Com­pe­ti­tion.
